A new member and enthusiast is always welcome to the fold. The answer is that you can go very bright indeed for under £50. I'm a big fan of Convoy torches. I've just spent a week on a boat in France and my C6 was like a searchlight in the dark. My recent Olight, as detailed above has been the go to torch on holiday though. Above your budget unless you find a discount deal but real quality stuff.

Having said that, the majority of my torches have been from Banggood.com. It's batteries and chargers where the real geeky stuff starts to take hold.

Bugger. I get it wrong all the time. It's the single 18650 one. I'm now looking up the Q8.

Excellent. They can get a little warm when used in full lighthouse mode!

So then fellow torchees, autumn is zooming into torch friendly evenings. About time we all bought some new and entirely necessary stuff.

So, money no object, what would you be ordering?

Far from fanciful and a sensible request!

My evening Epping Forest walks are much the same. Soon it'll be dark start to finish. The bloody dogs become invisible so they get to wear flashing LED bands, which is a little weird when the spaniel is chasing who knows what with only her flashing blue collar visible.

When its like that I find myself with a heavy torch burden. The Convoy L6 to illuminate the surrounding 200 metre radius and attract spaceships, one of the smaller torches for continual use to avoid poo, puddles, quicksand and bears, a head torch for getting dogs dry, watered and in the car and of course a spare in case one of the ultra reliable, fully charged torches suffers from some failure.

My money no object item would be a head torch with remote control zooming and dimming from 5000 lumens to 100 that didn't get hot, was light and had the ability to prevent my wife saying 'another bloody torch!"

Just in case anyone hasn't seen the latest opportunity offered by Olight to invest in some lumens.

I am really pleased with this. Real comfortable size and jumps from moonlight to turbo very easily.

I generally buy my batteries from Torchy, The Battery Boy. He used to sell via eBay but now has a shop.

http://www.torchy.co.uk

Not studied them but he spends a lot of time on bike lights, for those who were discussing them a while ago here.

His b!og is a study of batteries etc and is worth a look at too.

Did you like it?

My girlfriend and I went on Wednesday, I brought a C8 with me but ended up not using it, the lighting was adequate. And I say that as someone wearing prosthetics and having to really be on the lookout for potholes!
Apologies for taking thus slightly OT.

We love it. Been for the last 3 year's now and its a real highlight for us. We drive round and eat locally. We go for a late entry to hopefully let the crowds die down but this year it seemed very busy. Not as good as last year in my view but the laser garden and tree with 10000 lights were breathtaking. Thankfully most of the pushchair pushers just want to watch the display over the lake so we found some real peaceful parts.

I had several small but bright Olights ready to slip into my jacket pocket which would have been useful but the place is well lit where it needs to be.

A yearly highlight for us and it kicks off the festive spirit.

I have a feeling there are several torch threads, but because this is PH, searching for them is a soul-destroying waste of time. This is the one I found, so here goes...
Wash your mouth out!!!! This is the ONLY torch thread!

You have many options and will be amazed at how good they are compared to a Maglight. The question is what you use it for and once that's clear advice will follow.

I bought one of the little 10w versions when they were on offer for £10 about a year ago. One of the most useful household tools I've ever bought.

If you fancy dipping a toe in the Olight world there is a great offer today.

50% off the M2T

https://www.olightstore.uk/

I've become quite a fan of the Olight range and this represents good value. Its not their usual system with charging through the end cap, but frankly, that's not too much of a hardship. Got some nice 18650's that will fit and several rechargable Cr123's.

The only 18650's I use are from Torchy so that's a good steer.

In a fan of the Astrolux A01 for keyrings but ordered one of those to see what it's like. Particularly as the last time I needed the Astrolux the battery was flat.
