The one in the link above is pretty good then?
That's kinda like the price i'd like to spend on a torch.
Any good?
I bought a couple of different ones. That's kinda like the price i'd like to spend on a torch.
Any good?
This one for walking the dog (rural area, proper dark in the evenings).

and this one to clip on my Rucksack strap.

Both are very impressive.
As per previous comment though make sure you buy the right batteries, I'd wrongly assumed they took regular AAs ...but they don't they take 18650s that are like AA only fatter and longer.

Ola torchy people, I'm looking for a small bite-grip torch - like the TerraLUX LightStar 80 but stubbier. I've found what I need but it's US based and er, problematic, to get.
Basically looking for a civi version of this -
Any ideas gents?

I got bored of trying to understand all the different acronyms and other bumf.
I bought this on a whim, kinda based on it having som eof the same numbers and letters as some of the ones linked to earlier.
Any good?

I can now vouch for the Petzl MYO RXP headtorch I posted earlier, I took it to Scotland and used it in the highlands, then went hiking for a photography trip in the sleet of Sunday morning, out on the North York Moors, it works a treat. I've just got to sit down and programme it now, I want the initial button press to come on at its lowest level, for mapreading, checking kit etc, then ramp up to the brightest with successive presses, at the moment it goes the opposite way.

Charger and batteries came today (They are like longer fatter AAs).
New torches are flippin bright
Two of those arrived here over the weekend as well - although from Amazon (link above on this thread.) New torches are flippin bright
I'm running them on AA batteries and they seem to work well enough on those. I imagine they are pretty impressive on the posher batteries. The torch itself is OK enough; the barrel is well-enough engineered but the lens and reflector are cheap. However, as has been said, for the price (less than £3 from Amazon, including delivery from China) you can't grumble!
Oli.

Christ its bright.
Pretty decent thing actually, nicely constructed, good weight. I like it alot.
Flashoholics: for headtorch use would you take a XM-L T6 or a Q3 for max throw? Should probably mention that the Q3 comes in flood to throw.
I'm also toying with the idea of throwing the budget (£30) out of the window and going for the Lenser H7.2 - 250 real lumens, a tried and tested flood to throw, more resilient tilt mechanism (a criticism of the original) and whilst I can't find anything to say it's regulated, it does have a low battery notification - which should get around that problem to a great degree. It sounds ideal for trail running in open spaces, and sells for around £45 - though I've seen one for £38. Seems like a bit of a no brainer at that price but I'm open to peoples experiences.

AA/AAA 240v, 12v or USB input. Intelligent charging, can even cope with 4 batteries with different charge levels.

I bought a Techno line charger a few years ago - similar to this one. Mine can charge at up to 1A I think, across all 4 batteries, so pretty beefy! It has a discharge/test mode where it will charge and discharge until it sees no gains and thus 'refreshes' the battery to its fullest capability. It will then just trickle charge maintianing the battery at peak charge until you want to use it. Cost me about £40 but now also seems to go by the name of LaCrosse BC-900. I think I got mine from Amazon.

Does anyone know if there's a larger diameter version of 18650 batteries? The various torches I've bought recently seem to be designed for a bigger battery than the 18650, they work but the battery is somewhat loose.
What torches? A lot of the time the battery tubes simply aren't as precisely machined as they could be. There are several larger diameter cells in the 650 length, but they are much larger.Just ordered one of these. Hope its better than my current Led Lensor H4. If not it was only £22 all in.

Can anyone in the know shed some light on this one? (You see what I did there!)
