Can someone recommend me a nice looking, well made (and bright, of course) LED torch up to about £40 delivered?

I've had a good look through the thread and options seem so varied I'm not sure where to start.
You'll get better answers if you can specify the size of torch you want. The best way to think of this is what type of batteries you want to use, There's a big different between a torch that takes 4 D cells and one that takes a single AAA. Additionally do you want to use off the shelf alkaline batteries or are you happy with high voltage rechargeables?
Useful feedback, thank you.

I guess 2 x AA size; if something can be bought with batteries and charger great but its intention is as a gift so if these are a 'sold separately' affair then I guess regular off the shelf jobbies would be better.

When you get it would you mind posting up to say how rubbish it is, how much of a disappointment it was and how it in no way lived up to your expectations?

The lie will make me feel better.

I may have found my headlamp toy.

http://img.dxcdn.com/productimages/sku_266125_1.jp...

1800lm built in charger and $32 with free postage.

Walking black dogs down a dark black lane with torches to terrify the baddies is a manly thing.

I have that exact one. It's good, nice and bright, but a touch heavy with the 18650 batteries in

Now that's just pornographic.
Wow.

I think that might just be the perfect torch.

Very compact combined with that kind of power is just fantastic.

If it's a gift of up to £40, sounds like you'd like something nice; I'd be looking at Fenix or FourSevens offerings with the appropriate batteries. Have a look at flashaholics.co.uk, they only stock nice stuff (although their site is timing out for me tonight...)

Well, since getting a dog this summer the itch has been there for a while to buy some new lights.

Various cheapy DX jobs have all broken and gone in the bin. The three that have stood the test of daily household use have been an Eagletac d25a2, a nitecore ex10 and a whacking great Trustfire x6. I've also got a Fenix ld01 on my keys that has been good.

I don't want to buy more 18650 lights as I have loads of eneloops now. So I've just odered:
- Nitecore EA41 (4xAA) for walking the dog and checking on the chickens.
- Eagletac d25a clicky (1xAA) for the bedside table and checking on the kids. The low mode on these is perfect.
- Fenix e99 ti (1xAAA) for the keys.

"perfectly uniform light patterns"? I don't think so. A neat idea, but the flood is never going to be great with no reflectors at all on the rim-mounted LEDs. Think I'll stick to the moving parts for now...

Costco have got these atm:

Not bad for £15!

It's a big heavy lump but with the zoom lens the throw is very impressive.

Any suggestions for a key ring size torch, prefer it to have a cree bulb and take a AAA or AA battery?

Is this any good - http://www.amazon.co.uk/ThruNite%C2%AE-Ti3-Key-rin...

I think the Fenix keyring torches are popular. Cant help with a model number though.

We have a couple of LED Lenser ones, take a single AA from memory & produce a decent amount of light. Cost less than a tenner each.
