That would be these:

16 quid each though.

Some Chinese sites claim higher capacity but AWs are the best you can get
Ah, so the 3600mAh ones I got will not be as good? Ah well, when I get those laptop batteries taken apart, I'll have some spares!
I'm not saying they will not be any good, but I am saying that if AW say 2900mAh, then 2900mAh is definitely what you get, but like I said that comes at a price.

For anyone reading this and confused about mAh, it simply means that a battery with 2900mAh will have a longer runtime than a battery with 2200mAh.

The Cree XR-E LED is an older LED but it's a good one, it has a naturally throwy beam.
Thanks! smile It's arrived. And very nice it is too. By far the brightest torch I have ever had (brighter than a 3-D-cell Maglite) and small and light. Annoying that the switch on the end of it forces you to cycle through all the three modes to get back to the one you want to use (it has bright, dim and flash) but other than that it's great.

Hasn't changed my life tho'. It's just a torch.

I've been trying to work out where to put the new shelf to keep it when I've made it up... Shame I don't have a man cave. I'll also try to take one torch pics when it comes in 5-20 working days. frown
You shouldn't struggle for lighting anyway smile

Probably ... 'tis a lovely thing, but I need an opportunity to use it in anger. At the moment it's just sitting on my desk, awaiting a world-saving mission ...

Perhaps I'll love it more if I can rescue the EU economy with it! smile

My basket at Amazon has a P7, P3 and Eneloop batteries and charger in it.

Should I click BUY or is there another option I should consider (Fenix TK12 or LD20)?

The Fenix torches are a lot better than the Lensers I have used. The TK15 is a worthwhile upgrade to the TK12 if you can spare the extra £10.

Just ordered the P14 from amazon myself (£35) I picked it over the LD20.

What kind of running time are you getting out of it? Thinking of buying one of these for my father inlaw for bike riding so needs to last a good couple of hours. Couldn't seem to find any decent capacity lithium batteries in that size so is it better just to use 2x 2500mah AA batteries instead?
Sorry for all the questions!

Dunno. I suspect that I have had it on for a good couple of minutes since it arrived yesterday, and it managed that just fine ... smile

I'll use it for bike riding as well, just need to think about how to attach it to the handlebars. I have a pair of duracell batteries in it, and they work OK. FWIW, it will work on the regular AA batteries but also with another type - a specialist, shorter, rechargable one, and the torch is much shorter when you use one of these in it (it comes with an extra screw-in section to allow you to use it with 2xAA's.) BUT reviews suggest that if you use it with one of these specialist short batteries then it can damage the regulator (I think it was the regulator, whatever one of those is) in the torch.

Ah right thanks for that. I'll probably just get him to use it with AAs then. Let me know if you find a decent mount or way of mounting it to the bike.
Cheers

From simply the first page of this thread I have now found myself wanting a torch for Xmas. I don't need another torch. I already have two. And the occasions when they get used are few and far between. By goddamnit I want a torch!

I find having a black dog that needs to be walked late at night, down dark lanes legitimises ANY torch purchase.

Mind you, she weqars her flashing LED collar with considerable pride as well.

Good fun just to watch flashing red lights dart from bush to bush!

exactly my reasons for getting the lenser P7. ludicrous light for it's size, but then again i was a bit stuck in the filament bulb era when it cane to torches!

And to answer my own question from earlier in the thread, I've asked Santa (well, actually the birthday fairy, as he'll be here first...) for a Olight SR90 Intimidator - even just reading the name makes me smile smile

(Yes, I probably do need help).

Lol. Unlikely I suspect! These darker nights should give you chances to use it. Try camping and or get a dog smile

I know there were similar £20 torch recommendations earlier but all were seemingly from US websites, so can anyone recommend a ~£20-30 torch that I can get from the likes of Amazon or one of the UK torch websites? Main criteria are adjustable brightness and build quality, will be used for things like dog walking at night etc so I guess a beam favouring flood rather than long distance, although adjustable would be a benefit. I'd like one for myself up to around £30 or so but also thinking about a Christmas present for a relative which would need to be closer to £20, and would need to use AA or AAAs

Also on another note does anyone have any experience with the ~£10 rechargeable torches I've seen on Amazon etc that plug into and charge off the 12v socket in the car, are they any good? I'm thinking they'd also make good little Christmas stocking fillers if they're any good.
