Arrived this morning, and just powered it up with 4x Sanyo 18650 Li ion batteries - for once after an impulse buy, I'm VERY pleased. It's like walking around with a car headlight in your hand.. or brighter! Photo below doesn't do it justice - quite a 'floody' light, but plenty of distance as well. You won't walk off the path on the way home from the pub! Lovely solid feel to it, and for £29 I can't complain (although the batteries were £22 on top!)
i dont need it.

Not wishing to be disparaging but those beam shots remind me why I only buy high end torchs.
I've got a variety, some expensive, some cheap. Whilst beamshots against a white wall are great for side-by-side comparisons, I use mine outdoors in the dark. As long as there is a reasonable amount of light getting to where I need it, the precise tint of the light or shape of the output really doesn't matter. My current favourite is my £2 amazon bought zoomable thingy, with a 14500 li-ion in it. I also usually have a Jetbeam BA20 in my rucksack. Neither high end, but both quite capable. I also have a 4D Mag with a terralux dropin. Not the latest tech, but it will do a good job of flooding half a field with light for hours and hours.

Was just looking at that -- doesn't seem powerful enough at 300 lumens?
I have an original P7 which I believe is 260 lumens, it's powerful enough for country dog walking at night, I may buy something slightly larger (& more powerful) at some stage as the P7 feels slightly too small even for my girlie hands!LordHaveMurci said:

The latter is a noticeable step upwards in light output and both are very versatile torches, hence why (for all of us) the Lensers are the go to, always with lights. Even my older version will throw to 100 metres without issue and they're as floody as you want them to be, with smooth adjustment in between.
So unless all you're doing is something requiring above and beyond levels of throw then they're more than enough. Put it this way - after 4 years of daily use, if I lost mine I'd be looking at the P or T7.2. I do find myself considering alternatives, but I haven't seen anything that will do it all as smoothly at the price point.
And Murci...I could completely derail the thread talking about the size of your hands, so I'll just say this - when you're carrying it around all day you appreciate the small size and weight. For dog walking you don't mind some heft, but for a working torch less is best.

Absolutely, walking in dark fields at night having a heftier torch would be better for peace of mind, for camping/hiking etc the P7 is perfect.I have ordered a P7.2 to supplement my P7 - can never have too many can you, especially at that price (you wait, the P14 will be on offer within days now!).

Lol. Good shout.I have ordered a P7.2 to supplement my P7 - can never have too many can you, especially at that price (you wait, the P14 will be on offer within days now!).
But for camping/hiking you want a headtorch anyway:

Used that wild camping on top of mountains in the Lake District a few times, cracking headtorch.
Or for something a bit more impressive:

LED Lenser P7.2 on Amazon today for £26.99 which seems like a decent price if anybodys interested.
They've also got the B7.2 for about £4 more. Basically the same torch but in silver/grey and with a bike mounthttp://www.amazon.co.uk/LED-Lenser-torch-universal...
Looking for some advice..
Currently have two torches:
(1) Petzl Tikka XP 2 & (2) Mini Maglight LED Pro +
I think the above are rated at (1) Max 80 lumens and 60 metres, (2) Max 245 lumens and 150 metres
My main uses are for night fishing, safety when hill walking & general walking at night, so I would need a mix of flood and throw. To be honest, I think I'm looking for the brightest I can get for my budget. Ideally the torches would use rechargeable batteries. If they use the same batteries even better. Budget is around £100 combined (Torch, Headtorch, Batteries, Charger), but can stretch this a little for the perfect fit - absolute max 150 I would say.
I was looking at the Fenix PD35 for the torch, but open to any suggestions. No thoughts about the head torch, but would like a lot more lumens and range from it than my current one.
Cheers,
Allan

I've heard from a flashaholic on a walking forum very good things about this, it's an all in one package but it's another one of those bits of kit on my 'one day,' list. 1090 lumens (real lumens) and 18650 powered. The chap I was chatting to suggested it's bright enough to do just about everything needed when walking over rough terrain on extended night hikes:

Love this thread, very dangerous for the wallet.
I've got a trusty Lenser P7 that I bought a few years ago and it's great. My partner loves it for dog walking as its so light and small, powerful enough and has the smooth and easy flood to spot sliding thingy.
I bought this just before Christmas.... Just coz it looked cool
No adjustment but it feels solid and is bloody bright. A bit too much but does have three power settings. Not bad for £30 delivered.

With a bit of luck the delivery should be made to my work tomorrow and I will test the zebra on a night run.
