I've just picked up a TM16 from gearbest's euro warehouse - bizarrely it's a chunk cheaper than from China. I wanted a very bright torch for night sailing.
Anyway for £76 delivered (it arrived in two days) it's possibly the best all rounder I've ever used. IPX8 water-proof, 700m range, yet amazing flood. 4000 lumens of instant sunshine. The only downside is that it's a chunky little fella.

Couldn't resist it at that price and bought one of these. Only had a play in the back garden but should be all the torch I ever need.....Anyway for £76 delivered (it arrived in two days) it's possibly the best all rounder I've ever used. does have a use and that's map reading - lam-fold maps reflect a lot of light so you need a v-low
I would be interested to see how the TK51 compares with the TM - take a comparison pic next time you're out.

Pics coming just phone ones. I've been out tonight with both. All pics to 51 first the tmI would be interested to see how the TK51 compares with the TM - take a comparison pic next time you're out.
:
Thoughts first. It's a beast but....
Thoughts on power levels and my usage . Lowest is still too low for the terrain I was on to walk comfortably,
Second is obnoxiously bright. It's just too much of a step. A couple of times looking down the reflection from muddy floor dazzled me. That's never happened before. It's easy to carry but it tips slightly forward again level two is just too much for dog walking. In danger of blinding him.
Walking through woods I could see a guy was coming as he had a puny torch mu ha ha when they were close enough to see through the trees approx 30 meters I didn't dare shine the torch on them to see if his dog was on a lead. It's just too rude on level two. This is where the tk51 shines ( sorry) because on level two on flood you can look right at it so it's more useful.
I had to point it away and ask if his dog was on a lead( it had a flashing collar) he said it was and that he couldn't see if I had a dog but he saw my light so in a way it did it's job anyway.
Full power. I not convinced it goes any further yes it lights up more area at distance but because it's not focused seems to just hit a wall.
Side by side it blows away the TK51 I'm sure these pics if they come out will look like a decisive victory over the fenix. But for my needs it isn't I can stil scan the tree lines ahead with the 51 to the same distance enough to see other people.
One more thing I noticed. Maybe because I was testing but it definitely made me a target across the fields I could tell other walkers were stopping and pointing there rubbish torches and thinking what the fk is that idiot doing with night sun. I definitely felt self conscious walking with a fking torch it's anti social.
Give it momentary turbo and a lower level two and it would be great in fact I've decided torches only need three levels low medium and high. Momentary turbo and strobe. Oh and minimum two buttons.
Same tree same distance the 51 did light it up but not enough for camer to pic it out. Where the tree is from where I'm standing is a path people walk down there most don't have any torches so I need to scan that boundary.
Looks like a victory here for the 51 but that's probably something to do with camera phone. The tm lights everything up quite hilariously
Tree line approx 1km away neither torch could pic it out.it look looks like a clear victory here for the tm but it wasn't. Both seem to have exactly the same distance.

Did you mean TH10?
And what do you want the headlight for?
I've just picked up the Nitecore HC30 for running and I'm impressed with it - a useful degree of throw (good enough to pick out well ahead) but very, very floody and bright - even when it steps down from 1000 to 400 lumens. Everything up to around 50m away is very clearly lit, beyond that it's hotspot range. And despite the appearance of it there's no weight to it so it sits comfortably when being bounced around at pace on some bumpy downhill trails.
If money had been no object I'd have probably gone for the Zebralight H600 II or H602, but at 1/3 of the price I couldn't really say no and I'm very glad I didn't.

Thanks for that post Pesty. I think, damn this thread, that my budget has just gone up for TK51 as the dog walking torch.
Second question, head lamp, opinions on the Thrunite TM 10?
Did I say damn this thread?
I love it but it took me a while to appreciate it, Read a few reviews first I don't want the blame Second question, head lamp, opinions on the Thrunite TM 10?

However I'm quite confident. For me the user interface is perfect and probably why it sees more use but the buttons are very easy to,press by accident or if in a pocket.
The tm 16 is a beast and a bargain for the cash.
Remember both are quite large. Tk51 having a a lot smaller head so a bit easier to pocket.

Has anyone got a good head torch recommendation? Up until yesterday I had a zebra light h302w. It was super bright and really good flood. I probably dropped it somewhere!! Doh!
Any recommendations have to be as bright and as compact. I can't fault the zebra light but I'm only asking here just in case tech has moved on since I bought mine.

Usually go out in pairs. Currently have two headlamps which are cheap plastic jobs running on AAA. Biltema own brand lamps. Looking for decent metal headlamps running on 18650 which fit the beam profile we have now, which is one is flood and the other is a thrower with enough spill to give a little general illumination if needed. Those two work together well but aren't at all powerful enough.
The HC30 is identified as the flood unit already and the TH10 seems a good candidate for the thrower.
I'm on the hunt for a head torch for my girlfriend, who is in the army reserve. Looking for a decent number of lumens, but crucially, red/blue/green light function. My initial search so far has uncovered: http://www.torchdirect.co.uk/nitecore/nitecore-hc9...
Can I get better for the money?

Not sure, but I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get that light for at least £20 less if you ask around on BLF for a code. It's £72 on Banggood without any discount (you'll need to order soon to get it before Xmas mind.)
On the Nitecore front, I own one of their head torches, two full size handtorches and a handful of keyring lights. They do good stuff. The RGB lighting requirement is going to narrow your market though.

Cheers. Read the reviews and seems OK. Went for it off Banggood with a 6% off coupon - xmas06. Got the torch plus a 3400mah battery for £83.On the Nitecore front, I own one of their head torches, two full size handtorches and a handful of keyring lights. They do good stuff. I bought a 302fw?! One with frosted lense. I may have a look at getting an 18650 powered headlight for trips abroad to save me charging the cr123s all night. Everyone comments how light and bright my 302 is. I'm starting to look for a mega bright long throw hand torch also now. My parents are in the states right now so that opens up my options.
