I've been looking for a good 'flood to throw' torch for a while and after a recommendation on BLF I bought this from ebay.

Wow! What a torch. Excellent throw and even better flood! For under £50, this is the torch to have (I have torches twice as expensive that aren't as good!)

Damn this thread, it's got me wasting half my day looking for something which I don't even think exists! I'm after a focusable torch (i.e. one that I can change from flood to throw easily) but that has multiple leds and batteries? Preferably 18650s as I have loads smile

Anyone know of any?
Fenix have just started making a flood to throw

I'm thinking the Niwalker MM18 could be a good throw/flood option. 2 LEDs for flood and separate one for throw. I know it's a lot of £££ but I'm just saying it looks nice.

How much is a lot? Looks good only thing is without three buttons could be a pain.( for me anyway)

Any idea how long the throw is?

I think it's a shade over 400m throw. It has one led for throw and two for flood so it's a good light for combination. I think it should retail around £160 ish but I can't see it in stock in the UK. Then you have to add batteries and charger if you aren't set up with 18650s already. I'm seriously tempted with a nitecore TM06, with 4 batteries and charger for £100 in the states (my parents are there now) it's more of a flood light but has 300m throw. My friend paid £230 for this set up earlier this year. Bargain!

For that much money I can't see anything it does better than a fenix tk51 which is a bit cheaper and longer throw and better ui( for me) same idea minus one led. Half as many lumens though so it beats it on that.

This torch buying is a minefield!

Could you guys help me out? I need 3 torches (at least!) and cannot navigate my way through all the various sites without getting lost in the combination of batteries and specifications, so...

Torch 1 - Handbag torch for wife, AAA ideally to keep it slim, but needs to be small, light and not particularly powerful

Torch 2 - Larger, perhaps outside coat pocket size, but much more powerful, and very rugged. It will be kept in the car, so ideally I would have a rechargeable battery, but one that can charge off the USB connection in the car and not require the battery to be removed - do these exist?

Torch 3 - Big outdoor, Daddy torch, kept on charge in the garage, so rechargeable and preferably without removing battery - around £100 if that is possible.

Thanks for the help, as I don't have a clue.

1) I bought this Fenix the other day, seriously hardly any bigger than an AAA, might actually be too small for a handbag, fantastic for a keyring though. Low is just bright enough to see the path, medium and high both useful. Order 2 while you're there, you'll want one too wink

2+3) both do-able, but you'll be limiting your choice and ramping up the price. If you have any interest at all, protected 18650 Lithiums and a decent charger (both also available from Fenix, if you want peace of mind at a reasonable (but higher than Chinese) cost) will open the world up to you. The Fenix charger can be run from 12v with an adaptor, too smile Running lithiums means loooong run times, and very little drain while stored, so you won't get now-I-need-it-it's-bloody-flat troubles.

If I'm coming across as a bit of a Fenix Fanboy, it's just because I firmly believe they have the best performance : quality : price ratio for people who just want stuff to work.

I need a usb rechargeable torch for my deliveries during these dark afternoon/evenings and found the http://www.flashaholics.co.uk/products/fenix-uc30....

It needs to be pocket sized and have enough range to view house numbers etc from inside the van. Will the UC30 suit my needs? Is there a cheaper alternative that's possibly better?

I have one of these not used it much yet but the recharging thing is good. No faffing with plugs it's magnetic. Seems to work well. Obvious downside is its dedicated not micro usb for instance.

I bought myself a new weapon. A Noctigon M43. 6000 lumens should just about do the job

I've ordered it from Vinh, de-domed for extra throw. There is three different UI's. I think UI2 is similar to the zebralights I have. Check this video of one Vinh has already modified.

Look I don't need any more frigging torches !!!

I'd be tempted by that just because of the size but I'm not buying anything with less than two buttons any more.

Life is too short to be stressed out by a torch, smile

I'd want three on that and anyway I'm not listening I'm not spending 160 on a torch I've just spent over that on 4.

I didn't even need them.
