UK - Torchythebatteryboy - ebay seller. A purveyor of non-exploding 18650s. I ordered a cheap set through him while I waited for the set of Nitecore's highest mah cells - again from gearbest but from China as they didn't have them in stock in the EU warehouse. Extends the run time way beyond what the torch specs state.
Thanks for the tip!

You're welcome. I can also recommend the nitecore charger too. 18650s are a nightmare when it comes to sizing - some are a few mm longer than others and won't fit in some chargers. The nitecore will charge charge pretty much every cell type and accepts the longer than normal 18650s.

OK fecking hell the world of competitive torching is a bit complex for me so looking for some recommendations

I'm Looking for a nice look and feel torch for dog walking. Something that will please the gadget loving part of my dad but also the satisfied by good quality part of him. Maybe something that's a little excessive from a lighting perspective "because I can" but also is practical to use and recharge. Not massive, decent pocket sized

Budget around £50-60 please

Does such a thing exist?

Cheers in advance

Don't forget to factor in a charger and cells too if you go down the 18650 cells route which equal longer run times and more light output. Decent charger and cells will probably cost you £20-50 depending on number and mah rating.

Given that I would look at AA powered torches or those are sold as rechargeable, i.e. the power pack already includes the 18650 cells.

For AA powered I would look at the LED lenser stuff - really nicely made and very robust.

For rechargeables look at Nitecore and Olight for high quality materials and build, e.g.:

http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_248231.... = £40 tiny with smart docking station
http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_249448.... = £40 Bigger, more light but uses USB cable instead of dock
http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_177799.... = Nitecore's version of above

For the extra £4 I'd get the D4 instead as it shows you how much charge is in the cell

Olight s30/20/15/10 R models have a magnetic base station for recharging for simplicity rather than having to use with with a cable if you want a very easy way to charge it then grab and go.

Eta can't find a nitecore ph10-right model?

Right... so that's £131.

[Devil'sAdvocate]
This is 4000 lumen too

I'm an absolute believer in getting what you pay for. How is the Nitecore 9x better?

In fact... this one is £8.50 delivered and includes batteries and charger. And claims 4000 lumen too!

Get both biggrin

The nitecore probably isn't 9x better. What you end up paying for - I have some cheap and expensive torches - is typically:

Better QA - less chance of it turning up requiring some soldering to make it work.
Better electronics.
Closer to the advertised outputs re lumens.
Custom or higher quality optics + better grade LEDs.
Thermal protection circuits.
Better grade ally + anodising
Better water-proofing.

The cheap one will still be bloody bright and will be more than bright enough to do the job and be water-proof enough for anything other than out all night in a deluge.

The last link though. That will probably burn your house down and no way will that be 4K lumens and those cells are never in a million years 5800mah. It's like you mate claiming his XR2 did 150mph one night down the M1 biggrin

One thing to consider though. Take out the battery and charger costs. You'll need them regardless. Cheap cells and chargers are a folly.

Thanks for the sensible answer. Always a risk on PH that you just get aggression when you test a theory.

I did 'lol' at the battery ratings on the cheap one, and am with you on paying for good battery tech.

Thanks for the advice smile

I looked at the D4 and read some reviews, including comments by torchy battery bod, there were some comments questioning reliability, torchy recommended amongst others a product by xtar, do I bought an xtar vc4. link Yes more expensive powered by usb and not yet another confusing charge adaptor. So far it's been really good, used for charging Li-Ion, NiMH Eneloops, capability up to D size batteries.

How did you work out it was 9x cost?

Both need batteries and charger separately, skyray is £18 with delivery and the nite core is ~£80 at discounted cost, I make that 4x

Unless you are going for the new version of the tm16 gt which is more powerful.

Mine has been fine. There are a lot of counterfeit versions though - and I mean a lot - which may explain the issues. Nitecore has a page on their website where you can test whether it is genuine. The xtar was my second choice due to its excellent reviews. The issue I had with the xtar was the USB charger as it limits charge rate. Apart from that it looked great.

Tried both the TM16 and Eagletac mx25 in anger the other night. The tm16 has the edge on range but the Eagletac is brilliant! Great flood, hotspot is big and blends well with the spill. Easily lights up stuff around 3-400m away and perfect for what I want. The twist selector approach is nice to use too.

Well, I mean, its not my fault is it. They put these things on e-bay and I find that I actually NEED them.

Now she wont agree as she'll say what's different to the other 14 torches.

All I know is that some time in January I will be the owner of another 12,000 lumens for £22.93 English pounds.

Hello torch fans my trusty AP Pro torch has become faulty and so I am looking for recommendations for a rechargeable torch, with good distance say 200-300m at a max budget of approx £50? Looking size wise at similar to the Olight Javelot R20 or Nitecore MH20 on the previous few pages and which are coincidently in budget.

With the Nitecore is the cooling feature a good benefit?

Mm kay...perhaps I had too many sherbets before I pressed 'Buy', but I now have just had delivered an intelligent charger + 4*18650 Trustfire batteries instead of the 4*12500 batteries that I thought I'd ordered, so the questions are:
1) anyone want to swap 4*18650 for 4*12500 Trustfire or equivalent. Or,
2) what is the best torch for a sensible (cheap!) price to use the blasted things in. Must be mega-floody!
