I didn't even know what an 18560 battery was until seeing this thread.

Just bought a BLF A6 to get me started, hope I'm not disappointed.
Did you go for the 3D, 1A or 5A option?

Anyone know what the difference is?

Its just colour tint.

1A is more blue, 3D more neutral, 5A more yellow.

I went for 3D.

I've just bought an A6 too. Did you know there's a discount code on BLF which discounts the EU stock shipping down to the price of the China one?

The code is GBLFA6SE and you select the EU version at the checkout. Just means shipping is 3 days and not 3 weeks smile

I really should stop reading these forums. Even more clutter to fill my man drawer. Maybe I should get rid of some of the touches I already have an don't need. Just ordered the BLF one in A5 thanks for the tip on the code.

I've recently bought a CooYoo Quantum to keep on my key ring. It's tiny and sufficiently bright for emergency use the fact it's rechargeable is a bonus. Pic from the seller's website.

I did, but as I wanted some batteries and a charger it was cheaper to go for a package deal. Managed to find a 10% discount code for the order, think I paid £38 all in. smile

Cheers, I think 3D would be sensible then.

The UI is a little fiddly; otherwise you'll only be disappointed by finding out just how bloomin' much you have to spend to get anything better than the A6!
IMO, stick it in 4 level mode and its nice and easy to use then.

Great little light for the money, the brightness on max is excellent.

I've put my BLF A6 on memory mode, so it now switches on to 'bike flasher' mode, as I mainly use it as my bike light.

Interesting, I'm after a bike mounted light, could you let me know what mount you use?

Thanks.

Currently just a Velcro one similar to http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Velcro-Bicycle-Torch-Fla...

The clip helps secure it, and now I've tightened it sufficiently it doesn't slip on my road/path commute, including up/down kerbs. I have it slung underneath the handlebar as that's more stable.

The Thrunite AAA ti3 has arrived and it's great (even though I inadvertently ordered the cool light version).
The Olight is also a properly good little torch, smaller than the Thrunite and half the price.

Thanks for the advice.

Can someone tell me how to use the A6? I cannot work it out. Everytime I turn it on it just goes to the lowest power mode. No instructions at all came with it frown

Snap, it seems a bit random when you click the modes.

Half press quickly to go forwards through the modes. Half press slowly to go backwards through the modes. Starting at lowest, a slow (1 second or so) half press takes you into turbo. But it's easier to turn it on, off, then on again to replicate the same thing.

It's a hell of a lot more complicated than that but that's all I really do with it; using those two instructions you can get to all the light you're going to need to start with.

Brother has ~£40 to spend on my Christmas present. It's late but ours always are. Anyhow I fancy a torch.

One that can go in a pocket, take camping, evening walk etc. Ideally with disposable batteries (AA or AAA) so I can swap them out in the field if needs be.

I'm in Australia, so if I could source it here, fantastic, or at least a decent postage rate from the UK.

What's good?

I've just bought a BLF A6 with 2 rechargeable batteries and a charger for just under £40. Consensus seems to be that it's a great torch for the money.

A quick Google will reveal a 10% discount code too.

Slightly over £40, 99AUD = ~48 gbp I think, but simple to operate torch meeting your criteria and running on AAA. Despite us having several other torches including stuff running on Li-Ion rechargeable, the one we most often pick up first is LED Lenser P7.2.

Link to one Aussie site here

Unfortunately they are only about 35 gbp in UK.

Edited to add 80AUD here

Thanks for that. I've had a look on the LED Lenser website.

The P7.2 can be had on eBay for $60 buy it now, but I've noticed many are listed in auctions, and completed listings says that most go for around $32.

There is a T7m that goes for $86 buy it now. Not sure if it's worth the extra.

I seem to always try to get the best for a certain price point, so the 7.2 has great reviews, but seeing it bought for $30 makes me think, 'could I get a great deal on something better for $80', if you see what I mean.

I see a lot of torches have rechargeable batteries. My thoughts were that if it ran out when away from home camping or similar, would I be stuffed if no 240 power about. That's why I thought disposable batteries as being best.

Just seen that some charge via USB, so in the car, or from a phone battery bank. Maybe rechargeable is in with a look.

Or, the diagram

does make sense once you've got your head around it wink

I did say the UI is fiddly wink

Our P7.2 uses rechargeable Eneloop batteries, and the rest apart from one use 18650, all charged by this XTAR vc4 charger which is powered by usb.
