My strategy would be blind them, then hit them over the head
And then probably go to jail for assault.

I'm a torch fan also, and the latest purchase is my 'on the road M3' which is a very good quality olight copy.

Size of my thumb and 900 alleged lumens. Huge fun indeed!

You wanna get these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Feit-Performance-Bright-L...

Brightest things I've ever used at 750 lumens and pretty solid for battering people with.

Hey all, please save me reading 50 pages about torches!

I'm after a really powerful torch to replace my 3D LED Maglite. Up to about £50.

As bright as possible - once winter comes I'll be walking the dog in the near pitch black morning and night (we live in the sticks!).

Any recommendations?

You wouldn't go wrong with a new LED Mag tbh. Not the best, but still a 'good' choice.

If however you are happy to look at using Li-ion batteries (will need a charger and the batteries and a bit of care charing and using them). Then there are loads of super lights available.

Convoy L6

Or the smaller Convoy C8 (I posted about this a few posts back).

Or the Astrolux S2
http://www.banggood.com/Astrolux-S2-CREE-XPL-HI-14...

Really depends on:

-how throwy a beam you want vs flood
-how long a runtime you'll need on high outputs
-how pocket friendly you want the light to be

There really are hundreds of options. But tbh you can get something really good for modest money these days.

I have used a Fenix PD35 for the same hound walking duties for a while now. Powerful and reliable with just the right amount of beam spread and throw.

Well worth a look at that price range.

Thanks!

Yes, quite happy to use rechargeable li-ion.

The L6 sounds great - where's the best place to buy in the UK? Seems to throw up a lot of US sites.
Will also need recommended batteries and charger - again any make that are particularly good?

A good beam is essential for when I'm trying to locate the hound.

Thanks again!

The VC4 charger posted on the last page looks good - £20 on Amazon and charges the 26650 batteries required.

You really have lots of options and I have made many purchases from Banggood.

Buying in the U.K. Is a little hard. For best prices buy from China. But shipping takes 2-4 weeks normally. But you can sometimes pay more for faster shipping.

This is the main Convoy store. Known to people on flashlight forums.

https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32659785735.html?tra...

But you have to pay via the Aliexpress system.

If you prefer to pay via PayPal your best bet is probably www.banggood.com

If you really want to buy from the UK try here: http://www.3tronics.co.uk/

It's a store run by an enthusiast. Don't think he has the L6 listed. But give him a shout and I'm sure he could sort something out. His name is James.

Right two things how strong is your dog? And how much a you walking in the rain.

I can tell you that all the cheap little flashing LED types failed very quickly I tried loads rain or no rain, they mostly just fall apart. I then tried those type of collars but I have a very strong dog and I just don't trust them, cheaply made and again failed quickly or batteries ran down quick. I used his normal collar and flashing ones as well over the top because I dare not attaché a lead.

I can recommend two that are very good.

This is very good , he's even been swimming in it regularly because I can't be arsed to take it off. White one is so bright it's actually annoying so a heads up there. Nearly 2 years on same battery and lots of use. It's also attached to the back of his harness and he rolls a lot, its scratched up but still intact.

http://www.ezydog.co.uk/products/adventure-lights/

Features:
Waterproof to 100m
Super Strong - can withstand a load of 100kg
Visible up to 5km
100 hours of battery life when steady on, 250 hours when flashing
Available in red, orange, green, blue

Have in amazon too etc if you have prime for free shipping.

I'll see if I can find the make of the other collar type I have be back in a bit

Can't find it, don't use it anymore.
Benefits of the collar type more visible more of the time but batteries don't last as long and most are crap.

The ezydog one linked depending on where it is on the collar/ harness can momentarily be out of sight if dog is far away and turned just right but not for long.

We dug into the box of assorted dog stuff on the garage racking to find the Lidl led light rope dog collar. It's just a short light rope to be used additional to the normal collar, flashes red, other colours available. Li-ion battery, charges using mini USB connection, not seen light of day since March probably. Expected the battery to be harry flatters, nope still got about 70% charge. Impressed.

It was ridiculously cheap, about 3 quid.

Incidentally the garage racking was from Lidl too, also cheap, easy to build, garage now looks organised as opposed to a higgledy-piggledy arrangement of old cupboards, drawers and Billy bookcases half falling apart.

I would never consider using any of them as primary leads. They are just shining things so I can see where the dogs are.

Can any of you torch experts comment on this Olight ? I've just bought the silver one with the higher light output and it's very nice and everything, however the blurb says :

"KEY FEATURES
Three brightness levels from 0.5 to 80 lumens, plus a strobe mode
Output set by twisting head to cycle through modes"

By twisting the head, the only thing it does is turns the torch on (full chat beam) or off. Am I doing something wrong? scratchchin

Probably be all right for general stuff, especially on an 18650. At that price, QC is going to be rubbish, so don't be surprised if you get one that needs a bit of fiddling to work or is completely DOA, or it starts to fall apart internally after a while.

From "on", twist it off and on again very quickly (usually within a second) to change modes.*

*(For a bet - I've never used this actual torch! ... but that's how the rest of 'em work wink )
