As stated before, I also carry the PD35 and rate it very highly. I use it when I go for long walks at night in the woods.
Weirdo.
Coming from a bloke with 40k posts, yeah I'll take that hehe

Seriously though, I don't sleep much and I have really dense dark deep woods half a mile from my front door so why not. I've seen everything from field mice to badgers and so many deer and I think once a pine martin.
Seen any weirdos? (Or are you it!)

I've seen a few lads out poaching with either the gun or more commonly, the bow. With the amount of deer in there it's to be expected though and theres nothing nicer than a chest freezer in your garage full of good free range meat that came to you at no cost. So I hear anyway, I'd never do a thing like that.

The places I go deep in the woods if I'm in the mood for a good 3 or 4 hour walk are said to be haunted though and as the locals are a superstitious lot (I'm an incomer, you can tell a mile off as I can buy my gloves off the shelf) they themselves don't venture in where I go. I've never seen a soul in those places at night, it's just me. Which suits me as I can be an unsociable sort who likes his own thoughts and space to explore them. Having a 4am Brew up in solitude while watching the moon and stars is a pleasure for me. But then as an ex submariner I spent a lot of my years locked in a cramped steel tube for weeks on end with 120 other blokes so maybe that makes it easier to understand?

I guess that makes me the weirdo on reflection.

An previous neighbour was similar. He loved walking with his dog at night. He said he had spent far too much time near bits of Russia that he wasn't sure they were going to return from, in a smelly metal tube with lots of smelly people, so the crisp clean night air, sense of space and quiet suited him.

Great thread.

My collection includes:-

Mini - Mag 2AA Pro 272 lm, 2AAA pro 111 lm (latest purchases and really excellent).
Mag Solitaire LED 37 lm EDC keyring.
Led Lenser T7.2 (our issue torches are P7 so I got one for personal use). Not bad but overated IMO.
My old issue 3D incandescent Mag with upgraded 280 lm LED module. saves from the bin.
Mag 2D LED pro.
Energizer 250 Lm HD+ focus head torch (great VFM & performance).
Numerous upgraded AA & AAA Maglites from days gone by.

Can't have too many torches smile

Here's the photos from last nights power cut at home.

The little lanterns did a brilliant job, all night whilst the power was off.

Tom even took one to bed with him, we had to turn if off once he was asleep, as it was illuminating the whole landing from his bedroom!

Thanks, yes I know, this is the " spare " lounge and games room.

Long story but it's a dumping ground at the moment,, as we have moved out of the main lounge whilst we have the carpets professionally cleaned in prep for the new sofa arrrival.

So sadly, two adults, two young kids and all their toys, and Wilbur the dog are all crammed into the much smaller lounge!

And yes it does need a damn good tidy up! smilewink

Technically on the plans of Pugh Towers it's actually refered to as the Drawing Room!

hehe

I tried to justify the Convoy I bought last week but had to settle with "But it's so cheap, it would be rude not to buy it!" biggrin

We had a interesting night here tonight at pugh towers.

Just as we were siting done to eat our take away fish and chip supper, we had a power cut.

Western power had been working on the local three phase supply up the road, and you guessed it, we were one of the few houses on the one phase that failed!

So from about 18:30 to just now ( 21:15) we were in darkness.

And these little cheap puppies from amazon totally cam to our rescue.

Heres what i bought, intended for a rally camping trip later this week.

Two for less than £20, so about a tenner each and they are brilliant ( no pun intended !)

Ah bigger. I don't have any lanterns. Find I Need some of those.

For the price they really are excellent.

I was looking at lots of other lights for camping, and most were 3 or 4 times the price of these.

The good light spread seems to make them perfect for camping and rooms, as it illuminates a good area with an even amount of light.

I'm well happy with them as a cheap Amazon impulse purchase!

Found myself playing with setting my Convoy lights into suitable mode groupings just now. Surprisingly satisfying being able to choose something that suits my needs. The driver on the new C8 (the clear one linked earlier) has 11 different options - I've plumped for one that starts the light in 100% then cycles down through the modes whilst cutting out SOS and biking modes. All very clever stuff:

That has to have been designed by an IT person. Ridiculously unintuitive and overcomplicated.

More straightforward but less adjustable torches are available if that's what you want. I like how you can adjust the behavior of this torch, it doesn't seem that complicated to me at all.
