Sod it, saw a good deal on the L6 in N2-3A (about 5000k) - ordered. I've been dancing around it long enough.

Thanks for those links, it seems that review I picked up as the top one on Google was particularly poor at the nightime photography. In terms of him lighting up his small garden it looked not much better than a Lidl cheapie.

I need a new torch for the road bike - 18650, microUSB powered, good flood but a bit of a hotspot - and I'd pretty much settled on the Nitenumen NA01 (updated version with the XP-L emitter) - it looks to be a clone of the Nitecore MH20 but at a lower price, beam shots in direct comparison indicated this is a fair analogy.
When I saw it this morning at £17 on a sale I snapped it up:
http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_449755....

And by using points acrued with GB (no small number from the L6 purchase probably) I was able to get another S2+ free.

Now the long wait for the postie...

Veeeeeery nice. I've currently got a pair of KP IMR 26650's charging ready for my L6 to arrive - I've probably tempted fate getting them before the torch; it could well be weeks yet.

So. Next. I suppose I could chuck the Thrunite TN42 in there for a throwy light; a proper light saber. 1450m of throw is enough, right?

Or go the other way - the 'I can't believe something so little puts out so much light,' end of the spectrum. Mecarmy PT16 perhaps? Triple XP-G2 keyring light...one day.
Or the more affordable (and current favourites of mine) Klarus Mi7 and Jetbeam Jet II MK for their lovely UI and impressive throw respectively I'm definitely liking the big surprise/small package (snigger) angle right now - you pick up a big torch, you have certain expectations. When you're holding something smaller than your thumb and seeing output that'll put much bigger lights to shame, that's a really pleasant surprise.

That being said, when my L6 arrives my little lights may well get dropped very quickly.

Serious suggestion though? Convoy C8, clear, with the XP-L HI and latest drivers. It's just got a lovely feel, good throw and is and a really usable light for being out in the sticks at night. It's also priced in Convoy's usual manner (i.e. very reasonably.)

I've just received one of these torches from Amazon.

It's nice and rugged, and reasonably bright on its brightest setting, but the torch is ruined by the stupidly complex modes that it has: bright, medium, low, strobe and 'SOS'.

The problem is that every time I turn it on, it comes on in a different mode from last time. That means you've got to cycle through all the modes every time you switch the damn thing on. That is spectacularly stupid.

Am I being thick? Is there some way to turn this torch on in the same mode as last time without having to cycle round all the modes? If not, then it's going back - I can't live with it.

I've got this one:-

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B018QNOQDE/ref...

Pretty similar and as you say it has various modes, mine always comes back on to the full brightness setting every time I turn it on but I always turn it off when its on full brightness as well, will try tomorrow if it stays set on any other mode.

BTW I paid £1.99 for mine as an add on item with some bulbs, sent the bulbs back as they were ste but kept hold of the torch. Best torch I have ever had.

Different drivers in the lights by the sound - unless you fancy ripping it out and replacing it (don't ask me how, modding isn't my strength) or it's programmable (doubt it) then the short answer is you're stuck with it.

And it comes back on in the next mode in the sequence, not the mode it was in before. Grrr...

Convoy L6.

Very, very glad I finally pulled the trigger. To echo others in this thread - it is quite simply brilliant. I've given it one proper outing, traipsing across muddy fields, pointing it at distant powerlines and water towers to get a feel for it. It's not really a thrower but it does a good impersonation, putting a broad beam out to several hundred metres away whilst turning everything in short to medium range into daylight. Proper area illumination. It's not light and small but it's certainly not heavy either and feels reassuring in the hand. And the 2 x 26650 setup puts runtime in turbo at over an hour; just shy of 4000 lumens for 80 minutes. So it's not a show off light - it's got grunt and stamina.
I feel like I need to get a dog now so that I can justify going out with the L6 at night more often. It really did put such a smile on my face every time I switched it into high or turbo.

If you've considered getting one and put off making a decision - just get one. It's an incredibly good light at an incredibly good price and you won't regret it. I've got 30 odd torches and the L6 is far and away the best value purchase I've ever made.

Hmmmm, seems like I might have to try one on that basis.

Banggood have them for about £50. Which colour temperature did you go for? I see Torchy has some 26650 batteries to suit as well.

Hmmmmm.

I went for 5000K.
And with a discount code they can be had for closer to £45 - this one (aff link from where I got mine) works out £45 with L6DEAL, or the black is £47:
http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_488730....

But check the size of the 26650's, the L6 will only take ones up to 70mm long.

None of them are exactly what I had, I tried googling first but that didn't work either.

The innova ones look similar, might get some of them, but it was more rounded than that one
Probably a bit late, but this XTAR one any good?

This weeks arrivals:

Nitenumen NE01.
Convoy S2+
Convoy S2+ shorty (although I've swapped some tubes around and made it full size for now.)

Two Solarstorm 2S2P's. Impulse buy, I think they're designed for running bike lights but I'm just using mine as a 4x18650 battery pack.

I've also ordered a Jet II Pro:
http://www.jetbeamlight.com/ShowProducts.asp?ID=99
(Yes, you can turn around/remove the bezel - it's a nice idea but a bit too 'tacticool' for my liking.)
The light itself is basically the same as the Jet II MK but with a side switch instead of a twisty. I really rate my Jet II MK - it's a really punchy light for it's size, chucks out some really usable throw and is small enough to be a functional keyring light. Plan is to give whichever I like the least to SWMBO as a keyring light.

And I managed to lose my Klarus Mi7 - a fantastic little light that I used more than any of my others. So I've had to replace that.

If SWMBO reads this thread I'm a dead man.

What do you do that requires so many torches?

I guess I'm just really scared of the dark?

I see something new/different and potentially better than what I already have, and justify it to myself. Quite easily done when at the same time I'm picking them up at a fraction of the cost people pay over here for much less capable lights. All the lights mentioned above have been bought for a purpose and having them where I need them to be, they do get used.

I could run down what gets used for what, and with the exception of the L6 - a toy first and foremost - each has it's place. I could make do with less lights, but then I could make do with a Vauxhall Corsa. I'd rather not if I don't have to though.
