Need a torch for work, mainly for working in tight spaces eg electrical cupboards or around the engine on a train, again could be outside in the middle of nowhere so as dark as it gets, saw this and wondered if its suitable ?

Have you thought about a head torch instead? Sounds a bit more practical if you're likely to need two hands free.
Funny you should mention that as I've also purchased one of these, pretty much the same as the hand torch I listed so that's me covered for working nights .....

Looks like a SIPIK SK68 http://dx.com/p/sipik-sk68-cree-q3-wc-120-lumen-co... although a higher powered one.

Bought a couple of the Sipik SK68 last week, so should have them shortly.

I want a key ring sized AAA torch, I don't really want to spend a lot though. I also want lumens and flood. Suggestions?

Pocket or Keychain I would say - not large, just something to keep in the coat for walking the dog.
This is by far the brightest small/tiny light I've got. Simple screw-the-top-down-to-turn-on function, a quick on/off/on flick changes modes.
Mine arrived last week and very pleased with it so far. Nice and small so I can keep it on the dog lead and nice look as well. Only thing I don't like is cycling through bright/low/strobe to get to what I want. but that's a very minor issue.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Whilst browsing Maplin on Saturday whilst waiting for Mothercare to open (don't ask!) I found these on sale.

I got a pack of 4 2000mAh AA batteries for one of my torches and a 2 battery charger with 2 batteries.

All seemed like a very good price and I didn't like the charger that came with my others.

Sale ends this week.

Can anyone give some advice on a cheapish but reliable head torch. Either rechargeable or with rechargeable batteries. Will be used every morning in the winter for 2 hours.

Just received an Olight S80 from Flashaholics (top service incidentally).

Puts out an amazing amount of light given its size and seems very well built. Given that it gets used for around an hour every night, the fact that it's rechargeable should come in handy and save in battery costs (was going through a set of AA's every couple of weeks with the old one!)

Just leave it on "high", problem solved smile

Zebralights are very highly regarded, you would need to buy some AA Eneloop rechargeable batteries as well though.

As it's the time of year that the dog walking gets done in the dark, I thought I'd better get Mrs Philthy a decent torch.
A 4D maglite, and one of these does the trick:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001H8DQF0/ref=...

You can't focus the beam anymore, but don't need to. Probably the best comparison I can give, is, it is like holding a car headlight in your hand.

For smaller needs, I have a couple of maglite AA's, with the terra lux 140 lumen upgrade. They can be focused, and have a very powerful beam for a very small torch. One of them has a neat button on/off switch on the base, but apparently they don't make them anymore? Shame really, it makes using the maglite much easier.

I'm currently using a Lenser P7, it's great but I want more! What's the next best option without splashing out some serious money? I don't mind ordering from HK if needs be.

For those that know, can you give me the 'best that money can buy' recommendation for a thin torch (i.e. one that is about the thickness of a AA battery type)?

I need one for a rifle and I already have a mount which is that thickness. But it needs to be able to have a pressure switch add on it and also have a very focused beam for distance.

The P7 has 200 lumens, there certainly much brighter torches than that available but the P7 also has flood-to-throw, are you looking for a general purpose torch or a thrower (throws a tight beam a long way) or another flood-to-throw torch?

Does look good. Not too expensive either.

From reading around the short list seems to be something like:

- A3 EOS
- Fenix LD01
- ThruNite Ti

Any thoughts?

Very suitable, flood for close up, zoom for big open spaces, very good value too.

But it's not 1800 lumens, more like 5 or 600 lumens (which is pretty bright).
Arrived very quickly from china, along with the head torch I highlighted here, very good and just what I wanted, lots of light and very adjustable at a chap price, might not last for ever but won't break the bank to replace.
