Doesn't seem that great a sale but there's a free torch on offer, the original obulb for £15 and the Arkfield UV for £55 seem to be the standout deals.

Over the past few years I've become somewhat of a reluctant Olight fan boy, the prices are steep for the lumen output but the design and build quality is great.

Newest addition is the Arkfield UV light, its ergonomic and nice to carry, a thousand lumen normal wavelength light and uses multiple wavelengths on the UV so is useful for seeing where animals have been and also for supercharging the lume on watches.

Paid for itself over the Easter holiday when I got given a hotel room next to the stairs and reception, I used the UV feature to highlight the headboard to the staff and got an apology from them and moved to a different room in a better location.

Other than jizz hunting in a hotel room, I did wonder what use a UV torch has.

Been waiting for Olight to do another sale (they do seem to be a bit like Dfs/SCS in that dept laugh ) to replace my aging Cree torch that takes CR 123’s, so just bought the Arcfield.

I keep one by my reef tank to see how much zooxanthellae the corals have, which is probably a bit of a niche thing....

It also came in handy when the dog was getting older, and the occasional wiff of piss could be easily tracked down and cleaned.

That would have been useful for my old lab.

Apologies if covered, but I don't have time right now to review nearly 200 pages...

I'm looking for a torch to mount in the car. Should have a cradle or similar, which will keep the torch charged. Something I can fix in the boot or cabin, and charge from USB or 12V, but have permanently to hand if needed.

Obv would be handy if it were also a decent torch smile But I don't need anything as chunky as, say, a larger maglite.

Any suggestions? Thx

One of these perhaps?

A bit pricey as the sale has just finished but this has a case that keeps it charged, which itself is charged via usb c.

Sofirn SC31 is my "keep in the car" torch.
It doesn't have a cradle, but it is USB C rechargeable, around 2000 lumens (properly bright) very much pocket sized.

£38 on Amazon at the moment - https://amzn.to/3qUwRsJ

Thank you. I can see the benefits of case + (smaller) torch over a larger torch. I guess I was hoping for something I could keep mounted in an easy-to-reach position and on a cradle (much as for a life hammer, say). The logic being that, if it is in its cradle then it is charging - no finding in an emergency that the USB lead pulled out of whatever I was hoping to have available!

I live in the Yorkshire Dales, and many of my routes are remote. It is quite possible for me to get stuck in an area with no mobile reception and no passing traffic (has happened to me before). It is quite possible to have an "off" in a similarly-remote location. So I'd like to have something I can just grab from a mounted position, that will always be charged-up.

If you get something with a 18650 or 21700 battery and charge it to 50% or so (if it has a button switch illuminated with a find in the dark LED make sure that is switched off, usually just by twisting the end cap slightly) and it will lasts for months and months without charging, it doesn't need to be charging constantly. Having batteries fully charged all the time is not good for them apparently.

Picked up my Arcfield uv today from the PO and I’ll admit for a small torch it weighs more than I thought.

Thanks. I guess a lot depends upon the logic of the charging circuitry.

In terms of things staying charged, my experience is that the swiss cheese effect kicks-in just when you don't want it to. I'd prefer to know the torch is kept on-charge by the vehicle, and gladly exchange some long-term battery life for that.

On further research, I've gone with the Ledlenser P5R Work. Ledlenser products are impressive, but their marketing is a bit poor - it turns out they sell a whole bunch of torches with charging cradles / brackets, but don't make an especially big thing out of it (and don't even show them in marketing photos for all torches that include them).

Here's mine, arrived today:

The USB charging lead connects to the torch magnetically; alternatively, the lead connects to the cradle, which in turn charges the torch. A touch of hot-gun glue and I can ensure the charging lead does not disconnect from the base, which in turn can be mounted in the Land Rover.

Never mind the mechanics; how's the torch? For its size, very impressive. The programmability is interesting, although I'd perhaps prefer to be able to just cycle through all modes when needed. But it is a tough cookie and, ultimately, exactly what I wanted smile

I have one, still modest size but throws about 1.200m, not the 1.800 advertised, but hey ho,
charges with USB, can be used as powerbank, battery holds power during long storage, quite good.
Got the tip from here and bought this :
https://www.nealsgadgets.com/products/nealsgadgets...
I have no wide>zoom feature, the beam is always VERY focussed, at 400m about 3-4m spot diameter.
Now I found an old optical lens from a dia projector that works as a "beam widener",
can light up a whole room now if I stick it up front.
I would advise to look for a zoomable LEP.
I am in Germany, bought mine (new) from ebay smalls as it was in the country already,
no import taxes or customs hassle, I party bought it because I think legislation is on the way to outlaw them.
Even a reflection from a parked car side window nearby ( while playing around ) caused some blue-blur in my eyes,
I imagine if I shine someone direct in the face at close / mid range that person is blinded for some time.
