The form factor looks pretty decent if it can be used as an everyday carry, surprisingly just how cheap they have become, think I spent £350 on the Weltool W4 and £170 on the generic LEP.

The wow factor of LEPs is great but once the novelty wore off I've just been using them for deterring parakeets from the garden, in the time I've had it I've highlighted some doggers from a distance and also a guys dog that was purposely let off the lead to crap on the green each evening.

Need to think of some new use cases as they are just gathering dust atm, have them on hand solely for security.

After a torch for camping/motorbike touring.

Needs to be small and must be usb c rechargeable.

Think...finding your way out the tent for a beer induced leak in the middle of the night.

Extra points for being available in the next day or two (amazon prime or in store)

There is a sea of tat online so came to PH for help.

Rovyvon a5, or cheaper a1. Nitecore tini 2 as an alternative. Have a look on Amazon to see which suits.

My LEP Lumintop Antman came yesterday. Fantastic beam last night, shining up trees and things in the distance. If you have any interest in torches, you need one.

It is the smallest and cheapest, so only 165 lumens and 500m range. Maybe I should've gone up a price range to 400 lumens? Just found out it has a high parasitic drain, though easily fixed by unscrewing the cap slightly.

You're probably sorted now but a Sofirm SC21 would fit the bill. Similar size to a clipper lighter.

Probably bringing a spoon to a gunfight, but I just got myself a Nebo Torchy 2k.

I thought it was rather brighter than I needed. Then I read the instructions and realised I had it on "high" (500 lumens). The 2,000 lumen mode is quite something.

Some of the Nebo products are really good.

About a year ago, TKMaxx were selling the Big Larry 2 for £9.99 and in a blister pack with a smaller one for £14.99. I went around buying about 10 of them to put in our cars and my families cars to replace the assortment of cheap junk I'd given them years ago. Bright, fairly sure they have a magnetic base so you can attach it to the bodywork when changing a tyre or under the bonnet, nicely made and simple to use and operate.

Recently I've been around all the cars swapping the batteries out for new ones before winter and checking the batteries on a meter shows minimal discharge losses.

I have a Big Larry for my workshop - wood rather than cars. Really handy for looking under cabinets with the big wide lamp bit.

I got a LED Lenser P5 as a corporate freebie, which I really like - just a on/off button and the end cap goes in and out to change the beam pattern. I was tempted by the rechargeable version but they're a bit spendy.

Would you mind sharing the link for the one on the right? Looks decent.

This thread is lethal!

I didn't even need a torch until I saw this thread earlier, took the dog for a walk with my Screwfix £10 headtorch and now it's not bright enough for me.

Don't really want to spend more than £30, ideally on a headtorch but I almost bought the Sofirn sc31 pro on Amazon as it's down to £27. Is there anything better for the money? Guessing the headtorches aren't as bright as the handheld?

I backed this 2 AA Nitecore on kickstarter. It has the new round LED, so brighter and longer throw than square ones. 1,000 lumens. Not expensive either.

Looking for a bit of advice and been directed to this thread. Not sure if anyone can advise or experienced similar.

I've recently bought a Lifeline Pavo Motion Control 3500 light for off road night riding.

https://www.wiggle.com/p/lifeline-pavo-3500-lumen-...

It has three outputs in two modes. One mode is motion control which detects motion and then dims the output upon detecting no movement to save the battery when stationary.

When I used the light, either in normal mode or motion control mode, it dims to the lowest setting after just a few moments of riding. It won't stay in any output that I select and dims to the lowest output after a few seconds. It seems to last longer upon first being switched on (45 seconds) before switching to a lower output which makes me think there's a thermal/heat dissipation issue. Generally it only lasts on high output for about 10 seconds before dimming if its been on a while and warm. No amount of movement or shaking the light has ever made it change modes into a higher setting.

I have nothing to lose as wiggle have refunded me and allowed me to keep the light but it's all but useless to me in the current form. I'm keen to have a go at trying to fix it but have very limited knowledge. Could this be a thermal issue? Perhaps open up and see if there's any thermal paste around the LEDs? Perhaps an issue with whatever's used for the motion control setting but appreciate that'd be much harder to sort.

Just asking if anyone else has any ideas as it's wasteful to throw out a brand new light and I'm keen to learn.

Sofirn SC31 is my "keep in the car" torch.
It doesn't have a cradle, but it is USB C rechargeable, around 2000 lumens (properly bright) very much pocket sized.

£38 on Amazon at the moment - https://amzn.to/3qUwRsJ
Just had one delivered. It's bright compared to my led lenser p7.

The Sofirn SP40 is pretty much a SC31 with an angled reflector and lens, and a headstrap. - It is slightly lower in power to reduce heatsink into your forehead!

Currently showing at £37 for me on Amazon

I have also finally found a use for a LEP laser flashlight....

Sc31 pro used in the woods for the 1st time today. I found it best to angle upwards and the reflection back from the trees light the way. This was on high power, 1 below turbo mode. Phone is an Samsung s22.

I feel as if my new 1050 lumen torch isn't really suitably for this thread.

But it is good for 100m underwater.

Noticed that the Sorfin IF23 currently is on offer on Amazon for £36 which is as cheap as getting it direct from China without the risk of getting stung for customs and the processing fee.

I used a friends one recently as a powerbank and it charged the phone at a decent rate, the built in side light and magnet is useful as a work light for when working on the car so will be purchasing one.

Hi, it's this one here https://www.nealsgadgets.com/products/nealsgadgets...

Bare in mind it's now over three years old so the technology has likely moved on, I'd look on some of the flashlight review websites to see currently which ones are best bang for buck.

Can anyone recommend a good rechargeable lantern please... A quick Google recommends 'Goal Zero Lighthouse 600' but before i buy i'd be interested in some fellow forum opinions smile

The Olight, Olantern Classic 2 Pro Rechargeable Lantern is currently getting decent reviews from flashlight enthusiasts, they also do a version with a speaker as well but that may be a bit overkill, probably best to wait a week for black friday as Olight usually have decent deals.

Been using the Sorfin IF23 for a week or so now and it's coming in useful in the workshop with the sidelight and magnetic mount, also charges my Pixel phone rapidly which is a massive plus as the last torch I had with reverse charge only had slow charge capability so had to carry around a power bank as well if I wanted portable fast charging.

Has replaced the IF25 as my cheap EDC, pic here showing size comparison and the fact it can still charge whilst outputting light.

Price on Amazon has gone back up to £52 but it will likely go back to £36 again shortly judging the price history for the product on Keepa.com
