Anybody got one of these? Thinking of putting it on my christmas list

Not bad output for a AAA light and flood-to-throw is handy, but the price!!! You could have 4 or 5 tidy DX AA torches for that, with the same functions, if you can manage a slightly bigger size. http://www.torchdirect.co.uk/professional-torches/...

I have a bigger torch already. This one is purely to replace this old LED Lenser on my keychain.Keyring torches need to run on cr123s IMO
As I've said before, this one is the smallest/brightest I've met, although actually on my keys at the moment is one of these, which is just starting to show signs of proper wear and tear after 2 years continual use (probably just needs the driver pill screwing back down when I've got a minute)... but I've got another one in the cupboard ready, so it'll be a while before the little stainless guy makes its EDC debut.

I got one of these Trustfire ones from Manafont and just got back from a holiday in fairly remote Pembrokeshire. Being for the first time somewhere with pretty much zero light pollution really showed how decent this little bit of kit is, hangs nicely from the dog lead as well. I'm looking to get both a decent torch and decent headlamp for xmas from the parents. Primary uses will be fishing and photography.
Budget is probably around the £60-70 mark for each bit of kit - I would need decent flood and spot I think - does anybody have any suggestions as to what I should point them to?
Thanks,
Allan

I'm looking to buy a nice rechargeable torch with a budget of £150 to spend. I'll be using it to walk to dogs in the woods at night and I want to be able to attach it to the handlebars of my mountain bike on the odd occasion. I'm sure I can source a half decent mount on eBay for not much money.
I've seen a couple that look good, the LED Lenser X7R at £140. It's lightweight and has a wireless charging system that's quite appealing, but is quite expensive for its output - 500 lumens.

This one seems excellent value for money at £50 for the one with the top battery and looks well built, with 900 lumens and is featherlight at 142 grams!

How do these two look? Would I be barking mad to spend the extra £100 or is the R01 all the torch I need?

Ignore the Lumens thing and try and find beam shots. Some companies claim the chip lumen figure, other reference a measured output from x distance, which is far more accurate.I've seen a couple that look good, the LED Lenser X7R at £140. I would stay away from rechargeable torches if I were you as they do lose power over time. I'd also avoid the 18650 cell based torches as the cells are very twitchy in terms of bursting into flames when charged, and also are quite temp sensitive in WRT to storage. The good ones don't flame but are a nightmare to get hold off as I found this morning and they're expensive at ~ 12 quid each.
Personally I would go for an AA based torch and get some eneloop or similar low-discharge rate rechargeable cells and then if you find you ever find yourself with a battery that needs charging then you can always pop in some disposable cells.
I have the P14 Lenser amongst other various 18650 and CR123 based lamps and torches and that only claims 172 lumens yet has a much longer throw than my 800 lumen ebay special. Mine was used for night Search and Rescue with Mountain Rescue so it's had a good amount of proper use - and interestingly most of the team also opted for lensers of various models because they are light and AA based torches are - whilst lacking the ultimate brightness of the LION cells - very very dependable.
Decide on what you want - brightness over practicality - then get a 18650 based ebay / DX special - if you want very reliable and practical at the sacrifice of a little brightness then get a Fenix or a Lenser.
Question for someone:
I bought this for running etc as a cheap option. It seems okay-ish and for the money I can't knock it. It has a rip off of the Lenser flood to throw adjustment, but when on adjusting to throw it goes from a round circle to a square with horizontal lines visible. I can't see that it'll stop me using it but it's a little odd - is that normal?

Yes, the artefacts you are seeing are the shape of the 'chip'. The lines are probably because it's a quad chip - four small yellow squares as opposed to a single die chip. The lensers do it a very small amount too, but have better optics and are mainly single die (IIRC)I bought this for running etc as a cheap option. What's the difference between this P7 at £49.99 and 130hrs battery life http://www.maplin.co.uk/led-lenser-cree-p7-high-pe... and this P7 at £39.99 with 64hrs battery life and a free P3? http://www.maplin.co.uk/led-lenser-p7-professional... Is the first any better, or should I just go for the cheaper one with the extra torch?
