The Klarus is slightly disappointing, in that the tailcap ends up oriented such that it’s more suitable for left hand usage, if you want to avoid touching the side button.
The Imalent is a great flooder, albeit a bit too small, both in length and diameter. It can also be difficult to find the buttons in darkness – but that beam makes it an easily forgivable compromise.

To celebrate reaching 5000 posts and 100 months at roughly the same time I thought I would revisit my most long lasting thread.
As we plunge into autumn and torch friendly evenings I wondered if anyone was revving up with new toys to brighten the dark places?
I'm going to treat myself to something. As bright as possible, running AA, throw to flood.
I have a few of those but wondered if the torchifisi had any recommendations for something to satisfy my cravings.
Oh, and its nice to be paid to post from now on. Cant wait for the check!

When I wanted similar I ended up at the Coast Polysteel 600. Proper waterproof, too. Makes fair progress through batteries, however, and I'm on my second after the first developed an intermittent switch fault (swapped for free with no quibbles).
I haven't trawled through the entire thread but it seems things change rapidly in the world of torches.
I'm looking for recommended compact torch that will take one or two standard AA batteries with a max budget of £10. Is this doable or am I caught between the eBay cheapie lottery of will they won't they work and a better quality item

These are surprisingly good. I've got them all over the place.

Going to hazard a guess on an SK68 is what he was referring to:
https://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_15289....
They're cheap, reliable, single AA. I'm not great on recommendations for alkaline powered lights, just about everything I own runs off li-ion. A much more efficient power source for my use.
In other news, this one is getting hidden from the missus when it arrives:
https://www.banggood.com/BLF-Q8-4x-XP-L-5000LM-Pro...
The latest BLF designed light to hit the shelves - a coke can sized 5000 lumen torch. If it had been released a couple of weeks ago when it was still faintly summery and light at all times I might have been able to resist.

That's not even the cheapest; this one is 67p:

The trouble is that for all of them postage is extra & they don't discount postage for multiple items. They actually cost a whole £2.36 each.

They're all SK68's, and they're absolutely fine. All of mine (maybe 7? I lose track as I give them away) cost about a £1.50 each and all still work. And you can chuck a 14500 in there to triple the brightness if you're bored or have one handy - although you'll have a battery in there costing 3 times the price of the torch it's powering.

Just noticed that BangGood are running a 50% discount on the Nitecore TM06S - spectacular piece of kit for not much money - seems to be a limited time offer though - get in quick
Damn that’s tempting... a lot of torch for £60.Nigel_O said:

Thanks for this. The TM06 has been on my wishlist for a while. I happened to go onto BangGood just at the time that they were offering the NitecoreTM16 for about £67, so I though it would be rude not to! I think I got the 8th out of 10 on offer.
As these will be my first torches that use the 18650s, what batteries/charger do people here recommend?
