I'm debating if to get a Lumia 800/900 next month. I really like wp 7.5 on my Mozart, but part of me is also wondering if I should go back to an iphone.

Really undecided.

What does iphone give *you* that a WP7 doesn't?
(genuine question - fan boys of each, zip it, unless you have owned both smile )

Loads more apps, and a much more developed accessory ecosystem.

That's pretty much it.

(Yes, I've owned both)

How would you compare battery life?

Much of a muchness, tbh.

I think if you've got a touch-screen smartphone, you're charging it every night, irrespective of whether you've got 20% or 30% battery remaining.

My missus has just got a Lumia 800 to replace her iPhone 3GS. The deciding factor was that the iPhone was over £200 more expensive over the contract and the advantages of familiarity were not worth the extra cash. She actually prefers the WP7 now.

It's interesting that with 3. I can have a Lumia 800 on the one plan for £36 a month or an Iphone 4S for £34 a month but with a £49 up front cost on the same plan.

OK. I've owned/used both:

iPhone 4S personal phone
Lumia 800 a 'free'upgrade from an older 3s

I used the Lumia 800 for a week.

Compared to OS5 the interface is still clunky (e.g. four or five commands to play music compared with two commands on the iPhone)
Battery life is not amazing (9am to 8pm typically
Lumia screen not as reactive to touch as the iPhone
Tile system looks good but only allows a limited number of apps and utilities to be displayed on one screen
No over-the-air software updating on the Lumia
Lumia camera not as good as iPhone camera which has more 'natural' colours.

Windows 7.5 is, in my humble opinion, quite clunky compared with iOS5.

Fairysnuff, but this is not a commonly held opinion.

Most commentators have remarked on how slick WP7 is, and how quick and easy it is to perform common tasks. (BTW, to play music, once you've selected an album once - press lock button, press play; music plays without unlocking the phone)

Just sayin'.

Phones4u are showing that they have stock of the Lumia 900 available from 27th April. As with the 710 and 800 they have the Lumia 900 in white as an exclusive.

Prices are similar to the HTC One X where you can have it free on a 24 month contract for £36 per month for 600 mins, 3000 texts and 1GB data on an Orange contract.

For me it's the choice between this and the One X. It's a tough call. I have an Omnia 7 so already like Win 7.5. But Windows Phone 8 (Apollo) will be out by the and of the year, hopefully bringing with it the few features that I feel Win 7.5 misses. With higher resolution screens being one of them, there's no chance of the Lumia 900 taking advantage of that even if it does get a free upgrade (which I almost certainly won't).

You are very lucky then. Every smartphone I have owned has had to be charged once a day.

Hi all, not had my Lumia 800 for long, really enjoying it, had a problem today though, I phoned someone for it to go to voice mail, when I tried to end the call, the screen was blank, nothing would activate it, not even the buttons would activate, holding down the power button sorted it.
I have the newest update from Nokia, anyone els having this problem?

Sometimes if I try to make a call it will freeze and then switch off and won't restart, I have to do a reset procedure a few times to get it going again.

I'm managing up to 2 days with mine and that's with regular calls. If I use the internet it's only a day.

yes

The iPhone, the Milestone both needed charges every day, the Milestone maybe even faster. The SGS2 I have now could go 2 days, but why take the chance? I'm used to plugging it in every night, it's also always next to me which is good because it's my alarm clock.

Although, battery is important though. I use my phone as a GPS on the bike, and then I can still use the SGS2 the whole day, the others needed charging to get me back home...

Stop buying st phones then, I'm on my second and this one has the worst battery life! My X6 used to last 4 days.

The Iphone et al have convinced people that they need to charge every day and that smart phones are power hungry.

Both my Nokias have had fantastic batteries. My Dad is using my X6 now on the original battery and it still does three days between charges. Proper phone manufacturers build for optimized battery life, most smartphone makers build for shiny and nothing more!

To be fair, though, the X6 is a three year old phone with a slow processor and very little memory, as well as a small, low-resolution screen.

And Symbian.

Of course it's old I had it ages ago!

Compare it to the Iphones that were out at that time.

I used to have HTC Touch which would last for days and days.
Thing is I never kept the internet connetion turned on, no push mail
The bluetooth, the wifi and the data connection is what screws the battery life of any phone. Turn those off and use it as a phone and your good to go for days
