No to all 3!

Got my free month tonight, cancelling tomorrow.
Seems a tad pointless cancelling a free trial 1 day into it when you can cancel at any time.

I'm going to keep it for a month. There seems to be loads of stuff on there that I've not seen, but then again I'm not a film buff.

I like the fact that I can stream to my pc, Wii, phone and iPad off the same account without paying for multiple apps or buggering around with licences like sky.

What's the advantage, does US have a better selection?

I am seriously interested in this too, but if they are not going to be up to date on the films/ tv that they have on there then I will think again.

Might just sign up to the free trial and see how it looks.

I signed up for it last night because my Blu-ray player claims to support it. (And it would too, if I could get it working!) So I thought I'd give it a go for a couple of weeks since the trial is free.

At a first glance, the selection of films seems to be better than Lovefilm, but as several have noted it's not right up to the minute. But we'll be keeping the service running for the foreseeable future since our son has discovered 60 episodes of SpongeBob Squarepants and 100-odd Top Gear shows are available on demand! hehe

saw this yesterday, very tempted to give it a whirl (just in process of house move so will have to wait a couple weeks).. and get rid of sky movies that i never watch as a mate gives me all the latest movies in HD anyway (newsgroups).

kinda thinking if the series in particular are any good.. i can maybe git rid of bl**dy MTV etc off the Sky bill too!.. the mrs likes all the sh*t series they tend to show there!.. Would save me alot more than the £5.99 by cutting my Sky package right down!

what is the image quality like? .. do movies stream with surround sound as well when connected to your amp etc?

I'm interested in this too. I currently have a Lovefilm subscription, though we get Bluray rather than stream them. I noticed when I played iPlayer on the PS3 against the V+ box for example that the quality was lower on the PS3, so it's a consideration. Still, it's about the cost of two films from Blockbuster these days isn't it (been a while since I was there...)

The US has an amazing range.

You don't even need to change your IP, Netflix geolocation works off of DNS settings.

In layman's terms does that mean I can just log onto the US site and join? Considering ditching Sky Movies for one of these services.

My TV, which is 'internet capable' (utterly pointless, imho) has a Netflix client, as does the PS3. When I tried the TV client, I noticed the quality was much poorer than that on the PS3.

One thing worth noting is that the bit rate steps down during busy periods, or if your connection slows.

Quality via PS3 is pretty good, hard to distinguish from DVD at times.

I see that the Movie distributors are cleverly making films available in the shops to buy for 2 months now before making them available to netflix/dvd hire shops. It used to be just 28 days, I think. Good work lads. I'm sure that will have a positive effect on movie piracy.

Surround sound - it used to be stereo only, however:

I'd forget to cancel it otherwise!

I'm waiting until XBMC (on my Mac mini) works with the UK site.

It (XBMC) has by far and away the best iPlayer interface, and from what I hear the Netflix interface is similar. So much better than the 'official' ones.

Looks great on the iPad, and no problems at all with lag or slow buffering (50mbps cable connection). The little'un has been quiet all evening, except when he wanders over to show me a particularly funny bit on Top Gear. biggrin

Seems a bit weak then unfortunately. I understand it uses Silverlight? That rules out linux and Mac users then
Silverlight is developed for Mac. Linux users are too busy trying to play dungeons and dragons in binary so I don't think they need worry.

Ha ha, probably true! I'm interested because XBMC Live and OpenELEC work more as an appliance (ironically less geeky than Windows!) and that's why my build should hopefully use either of those, but I digress.

Cheers

Much slicker interface than lovefilm but very poor content. Tested with a hd feed and impressed with the whole process. Works on both the ps3 and iPad well.
Good price it's just that content issue I have a problem with.

What does this mean to a simpleton like myself, am I able to (as said before) just go to the US site or do I need to do other stuff first?
