I signed up to the trial lastnight and, for an initial release here, the content looks fine. I've always thought about Lovefilm but then gone against it because there was no cheap streaming only option... Hello Netflix, for £6 a month, I think I'm going to like this

Does anyone know if the Just For Kids menu can be turned off on Apple TV, I'd rather have something else there instead of Rugrats and Thomas the Tank Engine

The issue for me is that I want to watch a selection of the latest films, not just one or two. Lovefilm and Netflix are still under the thumb of the film industry, who will put the vast majority of new releases on DVD only for maximum revenue and wait a good few months or even years before putting it on the streaming service.
This can't go on forever, streaming is the future surely.

Not sure what you mean. You get a menu system where you choose either the Movie or TV Episode you want to watch and then it streams it down. I guess it is kind of like iPlayer but totally different interface. Works in the same way though.HTH

Exactly the reason piracy is so rife! They could pretty much kill piracy dead by providing a decent download service of good quality films. Apple TV seems to go some way towards it but is pretty costly for a HD film you can only watch for 48 hours.Thought I'd give the free trial a go, it's got potential it has to be said. Selection limited and a bit dated but there is stuff we haven't seen. Be interesting to see how often it updates. Quality is ok, about DVD I'd say for their HD stuff, looks a bit washed out, watchable though, kids like it.

Just noticed that Lovefilm are offering a streaming only service for £4.99 pm with a 30 day trial.
I've used it on my Sony internet TV and it works well.
I don't know whether Netflix has a better selection but I've always found that Lovefilm had a decent lot, nothing that new but all the classics are on there.

Not tried Netflix but have watched a few films on the LoveFilm streaming service on the Playstation. When they first brought it out the quality was a bit iffy but the last couple of films I've watched have easily been DVD quality (I can't tell the difference between DVD and Blueray so it may be even better than that) and they seem to have a good selection of films on there, though some stuff seems to be available on DVD from them but not on the streaming service. Thinking of knocking my love film membership back from the current 3 disk package to less disks and watch more on the streaming service. I'm on Virgin 10MB and it copes fine, dunno what the minimum data rate is though.

I've just started a Lovefilm subscription this month, and also the Netflix free trial to compare them and so far I prefer Lovefilm just because the library of films is massive (to rent). I haven't watched a stream on either service yet, other than to test it works, as I haven't seen anything available which I want to watch!

Looks like the WDTV has a month free trial option built into the app, so soon as I sort out a HDMI lead I shall sign up I think.
I hear that some good stuff is on it already like 24 and Fawlty Towers so it seems worth doing the months trial just to be able to login and see what is available (the website is piss poor).
