I signed up yesterday for the free trial as I've been waiting for Netflix to come to the UK for a while now. First impressions are that the streaming and quality of picture/sound is far superior to Lovefilm's streaming service. Movie started quickly and ran silky smooth from start to finish. Only watched one movie so far (Red Hill) and the HD quality was better than DVD. Sound quality was good and the fact that it's 5.1 surround is a big plus. However, I did experience some issues with sound synch towards the end of the film - hopefully a teething issue or exclusive problem to that movie?

Sadly, the titles available are a big let down. Hardly any new movies and, even then, they're a few months old. Most of the movies available are ancient. Hopefully, this will change. Probably enough in there I haven't seen to keep me going for the duration of the trial but, not much longer unless titles update regularly.

Lots of potential due to the excellent delivery of the media. If they had new titles in conjunction with DVD releases, they could charge more and I imagine alot of people would use the service as an alternative to Lovefilm etc. In its current form, it is something I might use in addition to Lovefilm rather than instead of.

I've been watching The Thick Of It, so not that much to go on there for video quality because its all handheld and not HD, but I watched The Expendables lastnight and the quality was very nice, as said above, better than DVD. Sound seemed good to me but I don't have any 5.1 surround system.

If anybody hasn't found it, if you sign in on the Netflix website, you can adjust the download quality on Your Account & Help > Manage Video Quality, up to 1GB per hour on SD and 2.3GB per hour on HD for Best Quality.

I signed up for the trial at the weekend and so far I'm very impressed. I've got it on my iPhone, the wife's iPhone, my iPad, the kids' iPods and the Apple TV. Something for everyone!

The TV series like 24, Prison Break, Dexter etc are for me. My 4 year old daughter is completely sold on Barney et al.

I think I'll be keeping it going.

Mark.

How does the streaming work via AppleTV? Does it have an interface through the device?

Yes, as long as your ATV is up to date with system 4.4, Netflix will be there in the Internet menu. When it launched mine was still on 4.3 so it didn't appear initially.

Don't know, apart from the website I've got Netflix on my iPhone, Xbox and Apple TV (It may end up on my PS3 too if it's on there too) and I haven't had any warnings about usage or anything.

Wow this is actually quite good. I think I might cancel the tv licence and everything else, and just have netflix. Half the time I'm watching adverts on tv anyway, this has come along at the perfect time.

You know that you can watch 24, Prison Break, Dexter etc for free on

www.watchseries.eu

as well as for any other TV shows for free...just make sure your BB usage allowance is up to it...

I'm also thinking of quitting my TV licence next year as I only watch TV online via my Sony internet TV now....

I think we all know that's not legal though. Surely that site is pretty much what that UK chap has been extradited over?

Is really not legal? It seems to 'look' legit and as far as I know it's been running for years....it's also got a FB page and Twitter feeds..so if it's illegal then it's not exactly hiding below the radar is it?

A thousand apologies if it is illegal...I'd not want to run the risk of breaking PH rules nor the law..

It seems to consolidate a bunch of 'links' using a load of 'legit' playback sites..such as Gorillavid etc. Some of which request that you pay for a 'premium' to get better quality...although I've always used Gorrilavid which appears to be free, as opposed to Novamov which requests payment for faster downloads.

I never use it to download (which I think would be pushing it) but just to stream the programs and attach my Netbook to my HDTV to enjoy on a larger screen.

OK I've just Googled it and it appears it may be illegal.....and I suppose it's the same issue as that UK chap is in potential trouble over...however I'm surprised about it's longevity and the fact that it's advertising itself via social networking sites...

Apologies Mods if you want me to delete these posts then I will...

That site gives you links, that's not illegal. The sites they're hosted on aren't responsible for user uploads, hence the videos being regularly deleted. It's illegal to download and store pirate material but I'm not 100% on the personal legality of streaming

No different, you are downloading whichever way you look at it. I'm am not a holier than thou preacher, interesting though how easy it is to do something illegal without realising eh?

I Didn't think it was classed as a download because you don't keep a copy? Happy to be proved either way I genuinely don't know

Yep that was my thinking, as long as I just stream it then all I'm doing is just mirroring what is on the host site and as I don't (I think) have any part of the video on my machine then I'm ok?

It's a shame though as I got through a very boring Xmas watching the Wire....which is worth the risk anyways....

Happy to be proved wrong in the court of PH, not the court of US of A!! Yikes!
