I signed up yesterday on my xbox, free 1 month. I'm already with lovefilm and although the quality does seem to be better on NETFLIX the selection of new stuff is nowhere near as good. Going to watch Dexter then cancel frown

You still need a tv license too!
But netflix isn't live television so why do you need a licence?

I think I will give this a try, the fact you can have it on multiple devices is very handy.

I wouldn't expect the latest films but is it comparable to sky movies?

Just come off the phone with the TV license people.

To clarify.

tvcatchup
netflix
Lovefilm
Internet TV
BBC iPlayer
4OD
DVD's
Etc.Etc

All require 'NO TV LICENCE IF THIS IS THE ONLY SOURCE OF WATCHING TV IN THE PROPERTY!'

The only time you need a TV licence is if your property has the ability to watch live TV (i.e. you must remove all TV aerials and sky dishes, etc.)

I signed up for the trial at the weekend and so far I'm very impressed. I've got it on my iPhone, the wife's iPhone, my iPad, the kids' iPods and the Apple TV. Something for everyone!

The TV series like 24, Prison Break, Dexter etc are for me. My 4 year old daughter is completely sold on Barney et al.

I think I'll be keeping it going.
You know that you can watch 24, Prison Break, Dexter etc for free on

www.watchseries.eu

as well as for any other TV shows for free...just make sure your BB usage allowance is up to it...

I'm also thinking of quitting my TV licence next year as I only watch TV online via my Sony internet TV now....
I think for the sake of approximately £1.50/week I'd rather stay out of an episode of "America's Hardest Prisons" thanks.

I suggest you speak to someone else.

TVCatchup provides a live TV stream and they say you need a license here iplayer says you don't unless you watch live streams here

And finally from TV licensing

So DVD, netflix and lovefilm = no license.
Anything that supports live streaming/watching/recording = license.

It appears you're right.....tvcatchup DOES require a TV Licence, but all others do not.

I agree, but I was posting in response to some posters claiming that certain 'series' weren't on Netflix/LoveFilm and suggesting another site.

Albeit, as I've since discovered is illegal is not something I'd now advise! As I don't fancy becoming Bubba's bh!!

I signed up for the 4-week trial last week. I've installed it on my XBox 360.

And promptly watched enough Dexter in HD to (a) give VM conniptions (apparently I've downloaded some 45GB since last Wednesday) and (b) want to watch the remaining 4 seasons.

And The Thick Of It. Yes, the picture quality is st, but who watches TTOI for the visuals?

And Starship Troopers in HD. Brilliant, brilliant film.

Would you like to know more?

LoveFilm look to have really stepped up their online offering since NetFlix. Loads of recent films have been added, some big blockbusters too.

Which is good, because they're taking over a week to send me a DVD now.

Bloody panasonic, I wish they'd get a move on and give us netflix like they've done for the US. Most the stuff on viera cast is complete nonsense, netflix would actually make it worth while.

Signed up this morning for the free trial. Mixed feelings so far. There is some decent content on there but it's more TV shows than any thing else.

The movie selection seems utterly dire, nothing decent/recent on there that I can see.

Gut reaction right now is that it's worth the month's trial to raid it and watch things like 24 and Fawlty Towers, but they need to improve one hell of a lot before it's worth £6 a month.

This is exactly how I felt, deleted it already so I don't forget.

For me, a subscription for streaming movies should compete with sky movies otherwise it isn't worth it. I will stick to sky until something comes along that is at least as good.

Was going to go for the free Netflix trial but after reading on here that Lovefilm have stepped their game up a little (and the unlimited online streaming link somebody posted) I went with them. So far I'm pretty pleased.

Lovefilm online is getting better.

I have been using Lovefilm for a while now and love it, you can't beat having Blu-rays through the post and I see the online as an added bonus rather than the reason for having it smile.

easily watching 12 films a month through the door for £12.99 which I think is pretty good and much better value than trips to Blockbusters.

Guys Netflix has a Android App so Silverlight is not a necessity.

Also I have both Lovefilm and Netflix. A few things to note...

Netflix is higher quality than lovefilm. Its 720p HD vs SD on lovefilm.
Netflix has 5.1 sound, lovefilm doesn't
Lovefilm has a larger movie selection
Netflix has a larger TV selection.
Lovefilm now have a £4.99 per month streaming only tarif.

Typing whislt watching Volcano in HD on Netflix smile
