Raspberry Pi - Who's gonna have a dabble?

Does the new Pi give the option for optical audio output? I'm using PIs and a server for Kodi around the house, pretty much as above.
I've just got round to setting up surround sound on my TV and realised that the TV's optical output is only 2.0 unless the source is the TV's digital tuner. I had intended to HDMI in 5.1 to the TV and optical to the amp, but it looks like I need to skip the middle-man to get 5.1 from the PI to the Amp.
I don't really want to have to buy anything more expensive if I can avoid it.
For the chap with the server above, I've got a similar setup, but I've got a Kodi install on the server (which gets used to supply a distribution amplifier that covers the ceiling speakers around the house) if you use the Yatse Remote on Android you can one-click update your library without having to mess about with PCs etc.
Why not go pi hdmi to amp hdmi to tv hdmi? That's what I do. Class 4 microsd with latest raspbian:
simon@Octopus:~$ sudo dd if=/media/simon/NAS/2015-01-31-raspbian.img of=/dev/sdg
[sudo] password for simon:
no talloc stackframe at ../source3/param/loadparm.c:4864, leaking memory
dd: writing to ‘/dev/sdg’: Input/output error

5098504+0 records out

Slooooooooooooooooooooow.
Try appending 'bs=1m' to the end of the dd command:simon@Octopus:~$ sudo dd if=/media/simon/NAS/2015-01-31-raspbian.img of=/dev/sdg

Also, try keeping the image file on a local drive.
Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but there seem to be some B+ cases that do not fit the new Raspberry Pi 2. I purchased the one below from Amazon and had to modify it to get it to fit.

So after seeing the Pi 2 on the news I think I may have a go at this. Got a question for you folks though, is it possible to plug in a external hard drive (A non mains powered one, just 1 USB port) into the Pi? I see conflicting things online rather than a yes or no answer. Would the power draw be to much? Thinking of using it as a bit of a NAS/backup type thing.

It will depend on the power requirements of the drive and what PSU you are using for the Pi.
If you've got the drive already then I'd suggest giving it a go.
Couldn't find the power requirements anywhere for the drive oddly. PSU I was planning on getting this one:If you've got the drive already then I'd suggest giving it a go.

It seems to get the best reviews, there are a lot on there but none seem to stand out as being good.
Anyway think I will go for it and see what happens!

They've got iWant 5v 2.1A chargers in Currys for £5.99 at the momenthttp://www.amazon.co.uk/New-IT-International-Adapt...

As above. If it outputs 2.1A ish, you should be good. Depends on what you connect to it, ofc, as devices will all draw power.
As for memory cards, there is a link here that shows which are good/no good. http://elinux.org/RPi_SD_cards

Where's the best place to get cases? RS seem to only have white, black and clear. Quite fancy a crazy one for the 2.
how crazy you want?https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/208090269/pi-borg-...
