I've been messing with one, although I've yet to find a proper use for it.
Having several SD cards means I can mess about and not worry too much about the results.

The new wheezy seems useable, although sftp mounting didn't work until I installed gvfs-backends

It'd be really nice if someone made a GUI for omxplayer...

While I'm at it with Raspbmc.

Rolling a whole distribution just for an application?!

And it appears to have disabled text logins on other ttys, really helpful when it's decided to forget its network settings so I can't connect via SSH!

Trying to compile snes9x at the moment and not having much success - failing at make

Giving it another crack now with the following edit:

sudo nano /etc/dphys-swapfile
Change:
CONF_SWAPSIZE=100
to:
CONF_SWAPSIZE=400

eta bah, still didn't work!

Dude it's an SD card there are no good places to buy one, just pick one up on eBay, amazon,7dayshop, which ever sites you use often will sell em. You can even get thm in the super market. I think I got a bunch of class 10 4gb for £4 each on eBay.

Actually to be fair you aren't - lots of people having problems are having them because of the SD card they are using. It's worth exploring the supported hardware list and selecting a card from there. Same goes for wireless keyboards and mice - lots of potential problems there.

AS to where you buy it - matters not!

I killed the 4GB card that came with my Pi from RS. Might have bent it - dunno. Anyway I bought that same twin pack at PCWorld, plus a C270 webcam they had cheap, and did this - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-18900862 with them.

Well there's good news and bad news in my inbox today! My Pi ships w/c 30 July - that's the good news. The bad news is that I don't have time to play with it as I'm meant to be writing my MSc dissertation so haven't really got the time until mid September! Boo Hoo!

Of course if I sorted my life out and actually wrote my dissertation, I might have time, but I'm too busy procrastinating!

Small world! I saw that on the Pi blog.

Always surprises me quite how far and wide PH's oily tentacles reach

This took all day to build, but I seem to have a stable XMBC install now: http://www.raspbian.org/RaspbianXBMC

Is there improvement over the standard raspbmc?

I haven't found raspbmc too bad, aside from there are some videos it thinks it can play, but then all you get is a black screen.

It's a shame the pi seems too slow for vlc to work properly

Did you not just flash an SD card using this tool? http://www.raspbmc.com/wiki/user/windows-installat...

15 minutes, max.

He's built XBMC from source on Raspbian, rather than using Raspbmc.
