Raspberry Pi - Who's gonna have a dabble?

It just does. It was quite a surprise, but is superb and means you don't need mouse or keyboard.

This is Pi attached by HDMI to a Samsung LCD TV that's about a year old. It powers up and the TV switches to the HDMI channel automatically and starts popping up messages about HDMI-CEC and AnyNET+ and the remote works. Not only navigating around with the arrow keys, but the previously unused (on the TV) DVD controls like play, pause etc also work. If you tell the Pi to shut down it also powers the TV down as well.

CEC - it's a standard that sends TV remote signals down the HDMI cable. If your TV supports it, then XBMC will pick up the signals without having to do anything else. A genuine 'wow' moment when it just works

Cool, my Sony says it has Bravia sync, which according to the wiki is the name Sony use, but I haven't managed to get it to work

Well, I bodged it with some gorilla glue and a cut up credit card. Them I broke 16gb SD card in the slot. fk.

No matter though, loving the NOOB setup they've done now. Another 16gb card was procured, and now for the first time since I bought it 2 years ago it's now up and running properly. Bloody love it.

Bloody Sony. They've always been arrogant sods who had to do things their own way. Having a different memory card for their cameras springs to mind.

My Sony KDL-55HX853 (a 2012 model?) works with CEC to a Raspberry Pi.

You might have to enable Bravia Link in the menu somewhere.

Bit of a thread bump!

I've just got a Pi (a kit from amazon, containing the Pi itself, a case, a load of wires, a plug, an SD card with the OS already on it & wireless usb dongle thing (and probably a lot more!)

I have a couple of ideas of what I'd like to do with it, mainly make a retro games emulator & use it to talk to my car through the ODB port.

Is it simply a case of getting 2 SD cards, both with the OS on it, one containing whatever it is I need for the emulator stuff & one containing the stuff for the car, then swapping the SD cards whenever I move the Pi from house to car?

(I know I'll need other bits to actually plug it in to the telly/keyboards etc, I just want to know if its a case of having 1 separate card for each different use of the Pi)

That's by far the easiest way, yes.

I tried to have a look online, but it was full of ways how to dual boot stuff off one card, which is way too advanced for me at the moment!

Ordered a B+ yesterday, it arrived today, forgot that I'd need a new box for it! Time to dig out the Lego again…

I see they've integrated the phono jack and S video, how do I connect that to the old TV I was going to use? Previously I had a phono jack to Red/White AV for the audio, and a yellow Component cable for the video. New cable required?

It keeps annoying me about updating, and that i have updating switched off, but I'm not updating it if i lose my Exit button jumping back!

Lately rasp BMC seems to be forgoing finding cover art and fan art for things. So all newly added stuff doesn't get a picture beyond a thumbnail taken from the video file itself. Have they broken something?

Has anyone else installed RetroPie? - I'm trying to find where the config file lives that shows the keyboard mapping for the emulators, all the walkthroughs I find online are for slighly older versions that have a different file structure & doesn't tally up with what I'm seeing!

I recently turned my spare Pi into the 'intelligent' bit of a monitoring system for my house using this stuff:

It was hellish difficult to set up (each of the remote sensors is an Arduino, for each of which you have to customise the script they're running so they can be uniquely identified), but I'm really pleased with it. At the moment, it's dumping data over the net to a server which, once the company behind it is fully up and running, will become a paid server. They also provide software to let you set up a server on the Pi itself (with an attached hard drive), which will be my next step.

I'm gathering the data so that I can have at least a couple of season's 'before' data to compare with the 'after' data once this house has been retrofitted.

I've got a temperature and humidity monitor in every room, and I've been really surprised at what it reveals. The peak in humidity when the shower's on, for example, is scary!
