Raspberry Pi - Who's gonna have a dabble?
Discussion
I thought it was something a bit more interesting than using a pi as a media player as everyone else seems to.
Hyperion seems to be popular on the software side.
What I want to do is slightly awkward as most people play a movie via XMBC or whatever, whereas I want to just take any source and feed it to the pi. I think the lightberry kit that someone linked above does what I want but I can't find much info on them, peoples experiences etc.

Just a heads up in case you hadn't realised.
Unlike the original this uses a micro SD not a regular sized one.
This is what amazon prime is for.
I just did the same thing. They have a Sandisk Ultra 8GB for £3.72 but it's an add-on item. Luckily I needed an hdmi to dvi cable anyway.Unlike the original this uses a micro SD not a regular sized one.

When you're prepping and transferring the image to the SD card - how long does it take? I'm using OSX and the command line, with a 16Gb card.
Nvm, just had to be patient

download noobs network install, unzip and copy it over the your sd card - no need to write the image, just copy over, boot and choose OS's and they will then be downloaded and installed - much easier all round!
