CatJ said: Funk, if I disable an app will it still get updates? If it does get updates, does that mean it enables itself after update? They won't auto update. If you ever want to reinstate the app, it's listed at the very bottom of the All Apps list. Glad to hear you're getting on well with the phone. You may have guessed that I'm blown away by mine, and that's as a long-term Android user... Re. your WiFi, it should automatically connect. I agree with whoever said it is probably down to the settings you have on Easy Battery Saver.

I've removed the battery saving app, so hopefully it will connect when I next go out.
It will be interesting to see what battery life I get from it without the app. It is still taking quite a long time to charge up, does that sound right?
I started charging when it hit 14% and it's now at about 79% and that's been around 2 hours so far.

Did you do a full charge from new? Mine took a while. It's a larger capacity battery than most others - for example, the Desire was 1450mAh, the Desire HD 1200mAh, the Mozart is 1300mAh and the iPhone 4 is 1400mAh.
The HOX is 1850mAh so it will take a little longer to charge as it has around a third more capacity than the others. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S3 has a 2200mAh battery...

Yes I did. it was pretty dead out of the box so I put it on charge, it took quite a while yesterday but I wasn't sure how long exactly.
I'd say today it took a good 3 hours to get the green light pop up.
With reference to the wifi, I've found that the the 3 App disconnects from the wifi when you want to use it.

Funk, I was tempted to flash the new kernel but was a bit worried. Is it an easy thing ? I get a bit nervous going into cmd stuff. Is it just a case of flash the zip from the sd card ? Any improvements in battery life, any problems ? I do read xda just wish it wasn't full of stupid posts dating ' thanks ' ' great Rom ' , the thread would be about 1/3 the size and easier to read.

I pushed it through adb, the same as you'd have done for the boot image when you pushed a custom ROM.
Pop the .img where you can get to it easily. I have a C:\fastboot folder for such purposes, so I connected the phone and booted into the bootloader with USB connection the PC. You should have 'FASTBOOT USB' in the screen.
Open a command prompt and navigate to the folder you've chosen. Then type the following:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash boot <name-of-image>
fastboot reboot
Make sure you have the right kernel for your build. I am on ARHD 5.1.1 and someone's conveniently repacked the right ones for that ROM as well as 5.2.0. Which build are you on, I'll find the links for you.

I'm on 5.1.1 . I shall have another read. When I did the boot image it was through the tool kit you posted. Not great on computer commands and stuff !!

If you did it through the unlock programme, I should ask whether you are on the latest ClockworkMod Recovery yet? V.5.8.3.1. The programme used an older version and updating is STRONGLY recommended. Here's the repacked kernel for ARHD 5.1.1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?att...Pushing it to the phone is the same way you'll have pushed the new boot.img when you installed ARHD. It's only because we can't alter the HBOOT with S-ON directly on the phone, but it can be overwritten using ADB. If you're stuck ping me your phone number through here and I'll talk you through it. I haven't gone to ARHD 5.2.0 yet although I understand that the *test* Radio is the one now being sent OTA to European devices, so it must be stable.

Ok well removing the battery saver app appears to have made very little difference. At 17.5 hours I had just over 30% left. Yesterday at that time I was down to about 15%, with the app installed.
The only thing I will need to get used to is charging it up over night because at the moment if I didn't charge, I'd not get through the day without a charge and that's going to be hard as I'm out.

I think that pretty much every smartphone needs charging overnight. Certainly never been an issue for me as I never sleep somewhere I can't charge up. I also have a charger in the car and can charge from my laptop or computer if needs be. It's very rare to not be near some form of power supply.
I think with modern smartphones, the capability/battery life trade is a given.

I've had juice defender and easy battery saver app on my Desire, but removed both of them and found that the battery has performed better today.
Quite ironic as this will be the last day using my desire, as I have a One X waiting for me after work.
Previous days my phone is usually below 55 per cent at this point, but today its on 71. I don't think I've been using it as heavily but I've still been using it reasonably normal.

Afternoon all,
I have my first techie question, I have received my replacement phone today, and it asked me to do a software update almost as soon as I connected it to wifi.
My question is, how long should this take, it powered down pretty much instantly, and now it is just sitting with an icon on the screen circular green arrows, with another green arrow facing down and what I actually now think is a phone under it.
What should be happening?

What should be happening? If it appears to be stuck, unplug the power cord. For some reason it wont complete with the power attached.

I had that problem too, thought my phone had pegged out half way through an update! Not sure why the power cable has to be left unplugged for the update to proceed.

It's weird and not the first time I've had it happen, but when setting up the One X for the first time, some things were giving out errors, others not working and others sending error reports to HTC.
In most cases it's taken 2 attempts to get various bits and pieces working, but now it runs like a dream.

Funk, do you think you would be kind enough to make a quick step by step to put that ROM onto my One X? Or guide me to a link that would tell me what to do.
I've got no other experience than following your guide to do my Desire.
I am very impressed with the One X. Its weird that its basically the same thing as my Desire, but just a lot better.
