Mine hasn't got branding on the case, but it does have the three logo on power up.

Root it. Stick whatever ROM you want on it:

My biggest gripe is the horribly over sensitive volume controls on the side, the slightest brush activates them, really annyoing, almost a deal breaker to be honest. I don't understand why the buttons are touch sensitive but still act as a button, physically pressing it doens't seem to do anything. Is this normal?!
I wouldn't say the volume control on the X is particularly sensitive - on mine at least it does still require a noticeable amount of pressure (and corresponding button motion) before the phone recognises the action. The issue I have with it is that, being located on the right hand side of the phone as opposed to the left (as it was on my previous Desire S), it now falls right under the tip of my thumb when I'm not swiping the screen. If I then grip the phone a little too hard (easy to do in this learning stage of ownership, particularly given the very different way it feels and behaves in my hand compared to the smaller but heftier S) with my thumb in this resting position, chances are pretty good that the volume is going to end up being accidentally changed...

Yep, I ditched my T-Mobile firmware and installed Android Revolution HD. It's superb, and offers a huge number of advantages over a stock ROM.

Thoroughly recommended, although be aware you're likely to invalidate your warranty with the network. HTC seem to be very good at sorting things though, even repairing bricked handsets for a small fee.

Nope, I'm too lazy to change the order I think! Also, they may well not offer me the same 50% off any phone - it may have just been the One S they would be willing to drop to 50%.

How did you manage to get 50% off Pulse? I've been with VF for years as they are the only provider in a location I spend lots of time at, however I can never get much of a deal from them. Also both of my contracts are up for renewal although one of them is SIM only.

Really? He offered me it on the spot. The normal deal was £31 a month, and he instantly offered £15.50.

This is the retentions team though, so you have to request your PAC, and they'll call the next day.

I had the option of both the S and X and went for the S in the end. On paper there is not much in it but holding them side by side the S felt much nicer in the hand. There's more to a phone than outright spec. The X I felt would need to be held with 2 hands most of the time.

Phew! One person who doesn't think I'm mental then.

ETA: It works out about £120 cheaper for the One S.

I'm an ultra-geek though. For me, the screen and twice the onboard storage was what swung it for me. I'm already thinking 32Gb isn't enough...

In benchmarks, the S and X performed very similarly, certainly I don't think there's any major advantage to quad-core on a phone at the moment. Make no mistake, the S is a VERY good phone in its own right and I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Interesting prose from Intel on the quadcore recently: http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communicat...

The Qualcomm S4 uses 2 Cortex-A15's vs 4 Cortex-A9's + 1 Cortex-A7 in the Tegra 3. (The Tegra 3 is a Penta core!)

It's like taking an i5 Ivybridge dual core and comparing it to a Core2 Quad.

The A9 is a generation or 2 behind the A15, not to mention the Tegra 3 has been out about 12 months longer than the S4 (In tablets).

Hence the performance difference, the 'Krait' is not unique to Qualcomm.

If you read it carefully you can also tell it's written by a Apple schill/fanboi (take your pick).

GSM Arena, who I find to be pretty impartial, said this about the 'S'.

All told, the HTC One S is the fastest phone on the market - there's no task in the mobile world it can't tackle. It will also throw a monkey wrench in the quad-core hype machine.

Hmm, not quite what I expected.

I received my S just now, and it's grey (and scratched). Straight away called Vodafone to ask what could be done, and to their credit they are swapping it for a One X. They only have grey or white, so I've gone for a grey one.

Has anyone tried using Google Nav with their One X in walking mode?

Mine spins round and round like it's pissed. I'm wondering if walking mode uses an internal compass that's bust?
