It was a complete rework of the entire internals. Had they changed the exterior look it would have been the iPhone 5 without issue.
Yep, different processor, modem, camera, etc, hardly any cross over parts, except the screen which was already exceptional. The 4s is already future proofed, can't see where apple go really, the 3G network is only good if your lucky with your postcode, 4g is a few years off, people say ' use it on wi fi' but it's a mobile device, might as well use an iPad/ lap top in the house. The big issue going forward is the 3G -4g network, who pays and will it cope with steaming gaming, films, video conferencing etc.

I hope so, my 3gs is looking a little tired now.

In terms of business / corporate, i think APple have a way to go to break that market. I use a Blackberry for work and it was mooted that we might change. It was met with pretty stiff resistance from people who actually use the handsets for work. Have you tried typing a long email on an iPhone on a train? Complete pita. Prefer a keyboard every day of the week.

iphone is undoubtedly superior as a handheld computer, but can't see many big corporates giving users free reign on app downloads etc.

I still maintain that it's just a 'tweaked' iPhone 4..... They used the Verizon case, iPad 2 processor and fitted a better camera, hardly groundbreaking stuff, more just raiding the parts bin! I'm expecting great things with the next incarnation though!!
Don't expect too much then. The 4s already films in hd, the quality of that combined with the camera makes it a seriously impressive piece of kit. The screen is hd to all intents and purposes, and its very fast on wi fi so it's now down to the networks to get thier finger out now and spend big time, because mobiles are here to stay. In fact the 4s is faster than my pc I had in 2004, does make you think.

Digitalspy have something on their front screen about the next iphone.

It's suggesting that it will have a unibody construction and a 4 inch screen.

next one is iphone 6 tbh, the 5th one's already out...
My bet is that it will change to be just "iPhone" with no number in the model. This is what they did with the iPad and have always done with their computers and most of the iPods.

You mean "The New iPhone"?

No way will it be out in June 2012 - even iPhone fanboys are not stupid enough to ditch their newish 4s's for a 5 this soon. They will have to wait a year post 4S at least - which would be October 2012 onwards.

You think?

I think iphone users will upgrade whenever, theres a bunch of iphone 4 users who will move no problems

Look at the ipad3, no better faster than an ipad 2 but sold huge.

And the iPhone is getting left behind by a huge margin on the hardware/screen size front.

If the iPhone gets significantly larger (I don't believe it will) then my 4S will be my last and I guess I'd have to find a smaller Android. Colleague has a Galaxy something or other and it's just a stupid size for a phone, wouldn't fit in any pockets I have.

4.8" screens are not the whole market. I know plenty of people (women, mainly, it must be said) who favour a smaller phone.

The GS3 has staggering performance figures but I'd guess that there's a very large segment of the market who neither know nor care whether it's faster or not than the HTC One X; they'll just buy the one that their carrier has, or that they can get for least, or that they like the look of, or that's similar to what they've already got (i.e. they like Touchwiz or Sense, but they know it as "Samsung" or "HTC").

iPhone has never really been about performance. To Apple, performance is simply a means to an end, rather than an end in itself. As long as there's enough oomph to make iOS do what they want it to do, they're happy. It's never just "look at our blazing fast foobar", it's "look at our foobar, which has a blazing fast doodad so you can do your cool hipster stuff". Subtle but important distinction.

The iPad 3 is better and faster than the 2. MOAR PIKSULS and MOAR JEEPEEYOU, for a start. MOAR RAMZ, as well.

I think a lot of people will be switching back to the iPhone that decided to give android a try 12-18months ago. Personally I cant wait to get rid of my Sensation. From a quality perspective, its a pile of crap. I keep having to go back to my 3gs every time it breaks.

Latest gossip I've heard is announcement September for release October. Apple being Apple, I should imagine it will be something quite different to just a bit bigger and a bit quicker. Well, not next time anyway.

I've got a 4s and I can't see what else I would need a phone to do. The battery life is pretty good, the screen is lovely, the size is about right and everything works as it should - the only minor issue I have is the drop in signal when the 3G coverage drops out.

That said I'm sure the 5 will feature something that I must have and will see me queueing up at midnight to get one! hehe

It wont get released in June. June is slated for new MacBook and iMac.

As someone above says, it looks like September / October.

Looks like the design is out:

looks good to me! I like the metal sides on my 4S, the glass back less so.
