Do you reckon battery life (certainly if you are on Orange) could be down to the phone constantly searching for LTE but not being able to find any?

Certainly since I have turned it off the battery has been hugely improved. Taken off charge at 6am and now on 77% with constant emails binging away and a bit of Safari/Facebook and about 10 mins of calls.
This was my guess too,

I'm pretty impressed with the battery actually, I think it's holding up better than my 4S

When mine was delivered (launch date) I was just leaving for work and putting a notice on my front door to "leave with a neighbour" in the slim hope he would, the delivery arrived. I quizzed the courier if he would have left it next door - he told me I was his first delivery of 160 phones that had to be delivered by 4 o clock and that he would have found me wherever i was as he was getting paid by the units delivered!
good man!

my courier didn't even leave a card.

if I wasn't so astute at tracking online deliveries then I wouldn't of even known.

they are attempting re-delivery today.
Mine left the phone with my next door neighbour and then left me a note on the back of a napkin!

This was on launch day.

Well they are just extra USB cables so why would they not me? The old 30pin to USB cables were £15 each so about the same I would say although the lightning plug itself seems more solid... I picked some up in the apple store the Sunday of "release weekend".

Basically it's the same cable you get in the box with the phone.

My battery seems to be getting better as time goes on. Anyone else finding that?

I presume 34 minutes of "usage" does not mean screen on time? Even if the screen was not on at all, I find that statistic hard to believe!

Not that I don't believe that's what the phone said, but I'd be willing to bet the battery is NOT at 100% after that length of time, unless the new battery is actually a portable nuclear power station in disguise biggrin

Even assuming that it was really 99%, that would suggest you could get 56 hours, 40 minutes of usage and over 15 days of standby. Impossible IMO.

I bought an additional one to go in the car but I really should have bought two. I've got loads of the old wide ones from iPods, iphones and ipads of the past lying about the house but it's a real PITA when my phone's dying to go hunting round the house to find the right one. In a few years when I've built up a good 'stock' they'll probably change the bloody thing again!

As with any iPhone, having the brightness turned down makes a huge difference to the battery life.

On my 4S it can add up to 50% more life.

How are people getting on the the black ones? Is the finish holding up ok? I have a 4 and use it bare but with a sleeve case when not using it - still looks nearly new. Thinking of getting a 5 in a month or so.

Two observations

power.... since last charge
usage 5hrs 6 mins
standby 14 hrs 55 mins

battery now at 30% with location services on.

CASES....don't by the CASE MATE Barely There..... finding black paint is chipping off all corners in 5 days use.
What do you mostly use it for? Internet browsing on 3G/LTE or phone calls?

This is my usage from today;

This is mostly Internet browsing on wifi, about 15mins of calls and some texts.
well this is today....

listen to 30 mins tunein radio on 3G, wifi connection for all but 3-4 hours, connected to exchange server every 15 mins for email download.....a few audio calls (<30 mins) and around 30 mins of facetime this evening...

but the timer listing is bks it was at 100% at 0715 this morning and not been charged since then,

Been playing with settings over the past week to try and improve battery life and have achieved some success.

I've got a great deal of apps (like most people I imagine) and wasn't aware that almost all of these have access to turn on the GPS / Location services. By going into the settings and enabling it only for what you need (ie. for me "maps" was it!), it remains off for most of the time. This meant (for me) the battery life is close enough to the Android devices I'm used to.

It seems to me that Applications can be written to turn the GPS on / off and some of these may be written poorly, either using it when not required or leaving it on once it's got a fix.

Another thing was Skype - this was set to sign in all the time (by default) and as I didn't want it to do that I changed the settings to sign in on demand.

Interestingly, the Wifi being on/off or Bluetooth being on/off (when Wifi & Bluebooth isn't available) didn't seem to make much difference.

Regarding the other settings, the brightness is on auto and LTE is enabled (I'm in Sydney on an LTE network).

Released in about 1 year.

It will be the same size and look the same as iPhone 5.

More 4G bands assuming O2 and Vodafone have got their acts together by then.

Slightly better processor and better camera.

More languages and more functions for Siri.

There will probably be something new on the software/hardware but no idea what. I can't see them doing NFC for the sake of it, I'm still not sure what use it would have?
