Posting from my S2 has this effect as well...why is this, is it an Android issue?

Is there any way I can use a desktop application to send/receive/read my texts - I thought that the Kies software was supposed to let you do that..

Have a look at "airdroid", I don't personally use it but I've got a friend who I think does just that with the app.

Airdroid is fantastic - a brilliant piece of software and one of the first apps I put on any new phone.

I dropped my phone and now the screen has a green tint over 80% over it and the touch screen no longer works. frown

Any ideas how much it will sort to fix and where to fix it?

Is there an app that works on a peer to peer basis - Airdroid works well, but when I VPN in, it cuts off as it's over my local network....

You mean like bluetooth or USB?
I wouldn't think so, that'd require some very special rights set :/

Either I'm being stupid (likely) or it's not working for me. Downloaded the app from the play store, logged on on my laptop, but for some reason the mobile won't scan the QR code. How do I get around this?

Are you scanning the QR from within the Airdroid app? (small camera logo bottom right iirc). I know it won't work if you just try scanning direct from the camera/barcode scanner app (yes, I made that mistake too and thought it wasn't working)

I just used the link that was shown to me - I didn't even notice the QR code until just now...

Assuming you mean the double-posting, it's because the last place you left your browser was on the screen which comes up after you've pressed "Submit" giving you the options of returning to the thread, the forum and so on.

When you next go back to the browser, it automatically reloads that page, and in doing so it resubmits your post.

Yep, scanning the QR with the camera logo next to the 'or enter this code' bit. But getting an error message asking me to scan the QR code!! Either I'm doing something fundamentally wrong, or something is fubar.

Like absolutely none?

I think every phone I have ever had with bluetooth has supported SMS as a service.

After owning every iphone from the start, and being completely unimpressed with the iphone 5 I've succumbed to android and bought the S3. Have to say I'm converted. I did worry I'd not like it but for me it blows my old 4 out of the water.

Without going back 55 pages can anyone give me a brief rundown of must have apps?

smile

Apps for me:

Novalauncher (completely changes the look and lets you do some cool stuff with the interface)
Tasker (does just about anything, as in this topic: http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f...
Airdroid (haven't used it myself but gets some very positive reactions here)

Widgets:
"Minimalistic text" gives some great effects, also cool in combination with "simple calendar widget"
