I've been with tmobike for the last 18months and will never use them again, the internet has been utter ste! Despite ringing them with my concerns they just told me to put my phone on 3g only which made no difference apart from no signal when I went into the country. Not much help I'm afraid!

Got a bit addicted to this speed testing however I'm finding myself getting upload speeds of 800kbps but download speeds of less than 200kbps. Surely that shows something wrong if upload speeds are faster?

A reboot of your equipment usually clears this.

I get that a lot on my S2 but a quick reboot seems to clear the problem and I get 20mb download then.

I was having no problem with broadband at home but the network data was terrible. Just been on to T mobile and they said to change network from T Mobile Orange to just the T-MOBILE network. Done so and straight away its shot up to 2500mbps. Anyone with a similar problem should try this.

Ok. Upgrade time from Sunday. Currently have an iPhone 4. However, I am extremely tempted by the S3.

I have a mac and use iTunes for my music. Is it a total pain to sync an android phone with a mac?

Really I want a phone that works as a phone, syncs with gmail, plays music and gives me excellent web access. Also, a maps function that works would be great wink

I don't know loads about technology but I do like innovation! Seems the S3 is the phone Apple are trying to catch and I'm just not sure the 5 is so different from my 4 really.
You can't connect your macbook to a galaxy S3 by cable! I would think carefully about switching. I did, and I'm not sure I did the right thing. I think I would get an iphone5 now if I could. There is no neat solution to itunes and android and Ive yet to find anything that is as neat, although android is much better regarding movies and drag and drop.

What's the battery life like on the S3 in real world use terms?

I get 2 days + change out of mine, sometimes 3 days if I don't use it much.

Tips:
Look at XDA forums for "BetterBatteryStats" - download, install and make sure you don't have wakelocks killing the battery
Don't run screen at full brightness - mines at probably 25% which is plenty bright enough
I don't know if it makes a difference anymore but I typically run the phone down to 15% or so and then full charge.

You don't need to connect by cable. Just use Kies Air.

Am I missing something, it's very easy to use the easy phone sync app on the macbook & S3 via the USB cable to sync with itunes.

I've found that it eats memory to the point of locking up my MacBook...

That'll just kill the battery quicker. Modern battery technology likes to sit around the 65% charge mark as a minimum. You might get 500 full cycles out of the battery, but between 100 and 65% 5 times that. You have to unlearn all the things we used to do to keep batteries in top condition. Full cycles = bad now.

I can't bothered worrying about when is the best time to charge the battery to get the best life from it.
A new replacement battery is only like £15. I think I can live with that.

But how will everyone at work know how special you are if you leave your iPhone at home? wink

My macbook is quite old now vintage 2006, 4gb, 2.16ghz intel core 2 duo running 10.6.8, and it has worked on mine effortlessly so far apart from a couple of old downloaded DRM tracks that needed burning and replacing.

Fine. I'm just saying if people are giving their batteries a full cycle on purpose because it used to be the best thing to do, they should stop smile

According to TrustedReviews Jelly Bean has started rolling out over Europe on the S3, it shouldn't be long before we get some buttery goodness!

Tbh to the S3 it'll do very little, as it's a very smooth phone. To less powerful phones however it'll be a nice addition.

I've been receiving a lot of various app updates over the last two weeks so I assume those are in preparation for jelly bean.
