Samsung Galaxy S3

Certainly doesn't look crap to me, bland maybe, but crap is a bit harsh
Indeed. I own an S2, and honestly, I think the S3 looks significantly better. Lets face it, how pretty can you really make a phone that is all screen? It looks more expensive and nicer to me.I had a play with a One X yesterday and it was pretty nice, but I wouldn't say this looks any worse.
As for the iphone comment, well at least Samsung keep giving us a bigger and better screen with each release... but I don't really know whether they can make it any bigger without the device becoming silly big. I think it really is on the limit to what I'd call an acceptable size. However, and there will be some disagree, and thats fine, but for me, 3.5" screen of the iphone really doesn't cut it any more; it never did for me, thats why I originally sold my iPhone 4 to get the SGS2.

You're right there. Apple are definitely going to have to up the screen size in the 5.I agree Apple need to go bigger with the iPhone 5, maybe 4.3 or 4.6 IMO
Samsung were brave enough to release the galaxy Note and it has worked well, it has also shown that when it comes to smart phones people are willing to go big !
If apple want a slice of that business then maybe a 4.3 iPhone and a 5"+ to run alongside ?
I do not understand the need for a bigger phone. Bigger screen, fine, but the GS2 is just about useable with one hand and I think that's pretty much the limit for me. It only gets away with it because it's so thin and light, mind.
The thing is, I've never heard anybody say their phone was too small. Is this a replication of the car market, where every generation just gets bigger and bigger for no particular reason?

I would actually consider an iPhone again but ONLY if they bring out at least a 4.3" model. The small screen (as good as it is) was the reason I got rid of my old one. I just made too many typos on it, and was just too small to be useful (IMO before anyone jumps on me!!)
The reason Apple chose the size screen they did was it made it comfortably useable with 1 hand, something my SGS2 is not (personally for me and I have relatively big hands).I think a 4.3" screen would be a different aspect ratio to current which would require all apps be re-written, so not going to happen.

Where do people keep these huge phones? Are they too big for a jeans pocket (when sat down) for instance?
Yep, in jeans pocket, but then I wear normal jeans, not these gay skinny jeans a lot of people seem to wear these days.durbster said:

Bigger screen = bigger keys on the keyboard = easier to type. The thing is, I've never heard anybody say their phone was too small. Is this a replication of the car market, where every generation just gets bigger and bigger for no particular reason?
I'd be quite happy using a phone with a 4.8" screen. I wouldn't want it bigger than about 5" though - the Galaxy Note IS too big for my liking.

Well if they don't then I guess I'll never be considering an iPhone again. They are decent phones, but I know of quite a few people now who are coming around to the opinion that the phones screen is too small and are considering moving on for that reason.I think a 4.3" screen would be a different aspect ratio to current which would require all apps be re-written, so not going to happen.

That's a very good point. They've designed themselves into a corner with their 4:3ish ratio. They can't increase the screen size without making the phone wider or distorting apps. Mind you the 4s has room to go a bit wider but not much.Wonder how much of this is true: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/05/04/the-samsun...

Yep, in jeans pocket, but then I wear normal jeans, not these gay skinny jeans a lot of people seem to wear these days.Obviously the traditional PHer is often seen out and about wearing these sort of jeans...
...but if you wear jeans with any sort of decent fit, then the new breed of enormo-phones are just too big to carry around comfortably in my opinion. I'd be more than happy for the next iPhone to keep the 3.5" screen.

I wear jeans nothing like the ones posted above.....i ain't that old yet!! and my s2 fits fine in my pocket and sometimes forget it's there it's that thin and light
Yep, S2 is fine. It's one thing I was really concerned about and nearly didn't buy an S2 for that reason, but it's actually significantly less noticeable in the pocket than my old Nokia 5200 ad551 said:

My contract is up in June and I have an iPhone 4 at the mo, which I absolutely love. It's not perfect though - keyboard drives me mad, autocorrect drives me mad, home button drives me mad.The screen is definitely too small now as well. Should I wait for iPhone 5 announce or get an S3? Latest news on the iPhone 5 is it will have a 4" screen... still too small!
Now I have seen the wonder of bigger screens (mate has a Galaxy S2) I dont think I would be happy with a 4" screen.
So it's looking like I may go for the S3. I just worry I won't get on with Android after iOS, which I love - I even like iTunes.

On a more serious note if you do go down the android route there are plenty of apps to import your itunes and playlists etc so i wouldn't be worried on that part, at the end of the day if you're used to iOS then Android may take a bit of getting used to...............but it'll be worth it!
