I'm going to ask an idiot question: NFC tags, what now? What can I used them for?
Check out this vid I've posted earlier:ZesPak said:
Pretty cool.I do something similar using "Tasker", for example, if you put an nfc tag in the dock in the car:
1) "Driving Mode" on
2) Brightness max
3) Autorotate off
4) Nav application open
...
Or, one on the nightstand:
Turn all sounds off except alarm.
like he demonstrates in the video, one on the laptop: start wifi tether.

Am watching the video.
I'm so getting some of these.
Incidentally, what, exactly, is car mode?
Mainly, but these are settings, it usually means that notifications are "read" out loud using TTS (text to speech). So instead of hearing the ring of your phone, you hear "Incoming call: John Doe". Or "1 new mail message". It can even be set to read SMS out loud.I'm so getting some of these.

Right. Definitely want some of these NFC stickers! When did RFID become NFC, btw?
I know I want some, but there seems to be quite a wide range at very different prices. Is this something where you just go for the cheapest you can find, or is there a benefit to spending a bit more?
Also do they need some sort of device to program them?
Lastly, what sort of range do they have? If I want to have two by the front door - one for changes to the phone on the way in and the other for the way out - will that work, or would they be too close to each other and interfere with each other?

The phone will program them, and there are different memory sizes inside. The more memory, the more they can do.
I haven't seen if they are fully reusable though.
They work at up to about 20mm

Some info there on the different types and the uses for each.

Was having a play with a Galaxy S3 belonging to a chap in the office today, I had a look at his battery status / use, and it had been off charge for over two days, and had something like 6hrs of use - yet it still had 60% remaining!
Nearly fell off my chair!
Something's wrong there. 60% battery remaining after 6 hours of screen use is impossible. Nearly fell off my chair!

Hmm, isn't it easier to use tasker with the trigger being your home WiFi? I've posted some interesting tasker videos earlier.Tiggsy said:
Is there any way of using nfc to pay for stuff as you can with some nfc devices
As soon as Google release Google Wallet in the UK (should be any time soon) then you'll be able to use your phone to pay for loads of things.wiffmaster said:

Are there many places using NFC tech at the checkouts?Fletch79 said:

Mainly fast food places at the moment I think. Pret a Manger, Subway and McDonalds being a few examples. It works well though - takes less than a second to pay for things, which is pretty useful as it means the lines tend to move quicker during rush hour. But you still see people with the contactless cards who insist on using the regular chip & pin method, which takes 10x longer!wiffmaster said:
