My ISP also flies you to the States and wants to fly you into space in the near future. I've got their all singing and all dancing 50meg broadband. In fact, they recently wrote to me to tell me that I'm soon to be upgraded to 100meg!

Whoopee!

However, over the last week, my connection, which usually runs at between 28 & 48 meg, has begun to slow down....and down...and down.

I've been on to them three times over the week and I must admit that their phone service is excellent. They knew all about the problem, checked that my end was Ok and informed me that the fault had been identified as a dodgy cable in my street which would be fixed by this afternoon. 2pm, in fact.

They also announced that as a goodwill gesture, they'd knock a fiver off of this month's bill too.

Fast forward to this evening. Logging on, I noticed that the connection was a teeny bit on the sluggish side of slow. So, I fired up "Speedtest" and here's the result.

My Commodore 64 dial-up was quicker than that. I'll be on the phone to them in the morning.

I know how you feel, this is what I got a couple of weeks ago:

I assumed it was down to them doing upgradey things, as I now have my free double speed upgrade from 10Mb: smile

They only seem to have doubled my download speed, though.

Last time I had the same result from the same company they directed me to a website to do a speed test they could monitor. As my line was so slow the website timed out before loading. Their response: "Until you perform the speed test we can go no further".

So I moved ISP and get 16Mbps down the same line.

Mines been feeling slow but the speedtest has been showing pretty normal results. My ping has been stupidly low though which is nice.

Are you using a Mac - if so it's probably offering you MacKeeper. To be avoided at all costs.

Some of you guys are lucky - here in sunny Plymouth I currently get

Even if I upgrade to fibre based I'll never get more than an a promised 20MB d/l.

Plymouth is meant to be a fairly major city for chrissakes, not a backwater!

University ... during the day so god knows how many are using it. May try late on a night, I'm sure its a full on 100mbit up 100mbit down line.

At home I've had better results on 3G out of my iPhone!!! than what I get from Virgins ADSL service.

If you ring them up and have a nice bit of a chat with a man in India, you should be able to go a lot quicker. I had 10mb internet, anytime phone and XL TV for £65 a month, I now have 60mb internet, weekend phone and XL TV for £59 a month, and that's not even a special price.
