Apple upgraded ipad2 on the sly?
Discussion
Find serial number in settings and look up model number here.

Enter "Settings", and select "General". Choose the top option, "About". Select "Diagnostics and Usage", then select "Diagnostics and Usage Data". Find a .plist file - there should be LOTS. Count three lines down (typically) and there is a line called "Hardware Model".
From the comments on an earlier posted website.
.Plist your looking for is year-numbers.panic.plist (at least on mine)
so 2012-02-13-171353.panic.plist was what I accessed but there were a few of them. Mines a 2.2 not surprising as mine is an wifi+3g 64gb and its quite an early one.

They are normally crash reports so will show up once your ipad crashes.
The hardware model should be listed in any crash report (so if an app crashes that .plist will have it too)
Yup, I've looked through those before when safari was crashing on my fat pad. Also had a look in there for temp info. Thanks for the info. The hardware model should be listed in any crash report (so if an app crashes that .plist will have it too)

Eh? I wasn't talking about you.
I never said you were, but from the comments on some of the articles people are no complaining, or being negative. No-one has said anything close to what you posted. Like them, I was trying to find out the score, and how to find out if you do, or don't have it. durbster said:
Question is, why have they done this on the sly? Surely it's a good thing and it's not the end of the world if you don't have it.
I wouldn't say its on the sly. Its just something the public, in general, aren't that interested in.Apple know when and what to market. The 2.4s were probably so close to the public release of the 4S that all interest and publicity was invested in that.
What sounds better.
Oh here is a slightly nicer processer that will save you % of battery use over our older ones. No major change to the ipad other then that.
or
Look at this brand new iPhone that now includes the processer out of the iPad to making it faster and more efficient and includes improved functions like.....
Even if they had publicised the fact they had upgraded the processer 4 times in the iPad 2s lifespan it wouldn't have been big news and would have been overshadowed by the constant speculation on what the next big thing will be.

It wasn't meant like that.
I deal with heavy duty IT kit for a living. All I was saying is that this is not an unusual practice. If you've got a 2.4, then great - if not, would you have ever known, without the press reports? My guess is you would have been perfectly happy.
It'd be like someone moaning MS improved the chipset of the Xbox 360. What iteration are they on now?I deal with heavy duty IT kit for a living.
