I've used them pretty much since they started. They are brilliant. They are an o2 subbrand so you're backed up by a decent network. Support is done mainly via a forum. Which when I've used it has been quicker and easier then calling support on other networks.

I suspect they'll hike the prices up once they've built a bigger userbase but in the meantime can't recommend them highly enough!

Buy a mifi from 3, get it unlocked and put the O2 sim in it? Get Giffgaff sim for iPhone?
I've never head of GiffGaff but I just looked on their website and the pay monthly tariffs are a steal!

Are they for real? Any catches?
GiffGaff are part of O2. Completely legit, and a bargain to boot.

Bear in mind that Giffgaff don't do a micro SIM (you need to cut it down to size) and don't allow tethering at all.

Thanks all.

To be honest, I think my best option is going to be to leave my Unlimited Data contact in my iPhone and get a used/unlocked Huawei mobile 3G router off ebay for about £30 and stick a GiffGaff data only sim in it for £7 a month.

That way as long as the 3G Router is in my pocket/bag/car/desk drawer etc I can use my WiFi iPad anywhere, as well as other stuff like my laptop if needs be.

Out of interest, how long do the batteries last in these mi-fi devices? Do they recharge via USB?

I believe the battery in these sort of things will last a full day including about 5+ hours constant web use.

But usually they come with a usb charger cable or stand that you can leave them plugged into if you mostly use them in one location such as your office.

I am tethered to my old sony Ericsson v630i via Bluetooth.
It works perfectly there are no tethering charges, I believe you can use any phone that uses Bluetooth and will alow devices to use the phone as a modem.

I have been doing this for about 5 years with my laptop and now the iPad smile

Your best option is to jailbreak the iphone, and install mywi.
Cost about £15 all in.
No need to start mucking about carrying other stuff about, just your iphone and your ipad.

Edit to add:
Jailbreaking is a piece of cake. Just follow the instructions here:
http://www.iclarified.com/jailbreak/
If your firmware isn't listed yet, it will be soon.
Normally, it's a simple download, connect iphone, hold some buttons, and let it do its thing.
