400g v 290g. The Hudl 2 is the better device of the two. Expandable memory, pretty good speakers (the N7 sucks in that regard), it is quite well built. The N7 feels cheap in comparison. You can harp on about "oooh, but the Nexus range will get the updates", but I haven't had a single update on the N7 thats actually improved it - if anything, each update has gradually made it slower and slower and slower ....
Do you have a 2013 Nexus 7?

2012, but the OS updates haven't resulted in anything useful - well, theres an exception in that, the Chromecast full screen mirroring is cool if unreliable.

At least on Antutu, the Hudl 2 is about 20% faster than the 2013N7. I'm unaware of anything (useful) that the 2013N7 has over the Hudl2.

So I take it you haven't read any of this thread then? Especially the many many posts on how Lollipop is a pile of pants on the 2012 N7

If you're going to do a product comparison then compare like with like - the 2013 N7 is miles ahead of the 2012 (I have both).

I have been comparing like with like - 2013N7 v Hudl2, the Hudl2 is the better device of the two. I've only referenced the 2012N7 with regards the lack of functional improvements in Lollipop - the only major change is the UI, which is a backwards step.

But if you haven't got a 2013 N7 how can you compare?

My parents have a Hudl2 for which I provide support and I have a 2013 N7 I can compare both and I would rather have the N7.

Weve both the hudl 2 and 7 2013. The battery on the hudl makes it lose by a massive margin.

I've got an HP Stream 7 Windows tablet in addition to a 2012 N7 and a 2013 N7. The Stream 7 is twice as thick, feels like it weighs twice as much, and always seems to be flat whenever I want to use it and so stays on charge most of the time. Compared to my 2013 N7 it's complete pants.

Finally...

I have rooted and run FStrimmer on my N7, I was going to add a custom ROM but still running 5.1, and its usable again!

Ditto. I have exactly the same hardware. My Stream is safely tucked in its box since it is utterly unusable compared to the 2013N7.

And I've given up .....

Had enough of the daily freezes and lag, picking up a 2013 Nexus7 from Argos tomorrow morning, can't wait to have a functioning tablet again, thanks Google for screwing my original one up.

My 2013 N7 was great on KitKat, unstable on 5.0x and now is rock solid again on 5.1.

Personally I'd have the Hudl 2 over any Nexus 7 which I found (my 2012) a bit too small. Battery life is fine for me so far (no more than a couple hours use per day and charged overnight). What sort of battery life does a 2013 N7 get?

All good here, no problems, might even be a bit quicker but if I didn't know it was M and not L I'd never know as there aren't any obvious visual cues.

I'd be surprised if it works on the 2012 model. We have 3 that were all trashed by 5.0 after 2 years of ownership. Google washed their hands of it and sugested we speak to Asus. Asus wanted £200 even to look at it.

Loads of owners had the same issues according to Google own forums.

Google simply don't test their software properly, and don't have a rollback option. Thats basic change management and would be crap for even a small software supplier.

Didn't have an easy rollback mechanism, you mean. I flashed my 2012 back to KitKat, but I had to do it from a connected PC upon which you have to install software to do it. It was pretty straightforward though.

But I agree, it isn't a simple one-click option that is as easy as the upgrade (sic) is, and it isn't OTA.

I'm now running a Samsung Tab S 8.4 LTE alongside my Nexus 7 (2013) on 6.0 and I have to say, unless I need the Tab S for its 4G connection, I still tend to prefer picking up the N7. It's crossed my mind to flog both and buy an LTE N7...

The screen on the Samsung is excellent though, I'm sold on AMOLED. Problem is, I don't want Samsung's version of Android which is slow and laggy even on the Tab S with octa-core and 3Gb RAM! God only knows what they've done to it to make it so stty.

What it HAS done though, is cement in my mind that I won't be moving to a Samsung phone when I come to replace my One M8 in a few months' time. If I could have the Samsung screen with pure Android I'd be sold but Touchwiz is just awful. I can live with HTC's Sense UI but I've come to really like plain Android 6.0 on the N7.

Any other phones out there with AMOLED that aren't Samsung?
