Not liking Lollipop.

I don't like the colours used for the volume slider, or the swipe down menu from the top, they are not as crisp.

The small battery indicator symbol isn't as clear either, and the N7 now seems to take ages to charge up.

And whats with the white background on the keyboard - gonna do wonders for battery life that isn't it ?

Agreed, I went swift keyboard straight away! I cant get any good sound from ear phones on the tablet. I believe i need to do a rebuild but not the end of the world! It is slow on boot up so I may do it this weekend! Would the software delete be enough, I tried the power and volume button but to no effect?

I believe my motoG will go kitkat asap, not looking forward to that!

Are you sure you mean KitKat? The Moto G has been running KitKat (4.4.4) for ages and is very stable.

Mine was fine after I initially factory reset it after 5.0.2 on Nexus 7 2012. It's better but still pretty crap, slower than KitKat, have to reboot and clear the cache every couple days.

Yep same for me, better after a factory reset but still irritatingly laggy. I'm not sure what to do with it, I really begrudge binning it because Google have broken it.... frown

Did like a few others and did a reset to original (albeit still 5.0.02) and its much better but still has the odd wobbly, but its at least useable on a daily basis which it simply wasn't before. Hoping the 5.1 which apparently is out the end of February from Google restores this thing to what it should be.

I'm toying with a Hudl 2 - might hang in there for one further update with the N7 and then see what happens. I need something workable by March.

Further update.

I dropped it by mistake and the screen cracked, but this was a good move. After all my V5.x manoeuvring, it became less and less responsive. Battery time was worse.

HP Stream 7 for £74.99 ordered as a replacement.

Google, you have completely dropped a bked here.

Bit unfair to blame Google for this one. As I understand it, it's Asus' choice of cheap memory and an underperforming/faulty memory controller that is to blame for the original N7's slowdown.

Rolling out an operating system to kit that appears to be technically not up to the job might be seen as Google's fault though. You'd expect that they would have tested it adequately and then having realised that there is a problem with a whole raft of kit that they might have done a bit more about communicating with their customers about what's going on and what they are doing about it.

TBH if they offered me some cash in return for my 2012 N7 paperweight and put some effort into their customer service, I'd probably upgrade to a new Nexus.

Indeed. It would have been preferable, perhaps, to have said "The 2012 N7 is not capable of running Lollipop due to minimum hardware requirements and as such we won't be making it available as an OTA upgrade".

Of course, then there would have been an outcry about Google not supporting older hardware. They can't win really.

I really should get round to flashing my 2012 N7 back to KitKit.

scratchchin hmmm that looks interesting, have you gone for the Android or the Windows version? There's a Stream 7, Android KitKat including 3g for £119 - it's only a dual core processor but I don't play games, only dealing with notes, web browsing etc?

I use a tablet reasonably infrequently and I really don't want to drop a lot of cash on one.

Careful what you wish for... when my N7 died I went for a Nexus 9 - pants.
It's rubbish. Barely used now. Slow, laggy, feels cheap - nothing good about it.

I don't know, I think most of us know that kit becomes out of date and there is a point where it can't be upgraded, I'm fairly sure I'd have preferred a working Nexus frozen on KitKat to the borked one I've got. They could have used that as an opportunity to upsell to existing users.

It's the lack of acknowledgement and comms that I think is a real problem for them.

Thanks for the heads up. The N9 looks too pricey for what I'll use it for at the moment, I think I'm heading for a low budget Hisense, HP Stream or a Hudl2

Hudl 2 is in another league compared with my old 2012 N7. None of the lag I saw on my N7 regardless what I throw at it.

Only downside is it probably won't get updated to Lollipop.
