It's nothing to do with what kind of payment scheme you are on, or your location.

O2 now apparently advising customers to turnoff 3G to increase calls and text service. Can't help feeling this is just to reduce strain on the network. Hasn't made the blindest bit of difference here.

Everyone is talking about their phone showing no signal.

Both mine and the wifes are showing full bar signal but will not call or text each other.

I rekon this will go on for days now, like when BIS went down.

What a mess! mad

I've got full signal and rang my landline and the call connected. Hope it stays fixed.

Feel sorry for those still affected.

Aaaaah, this may explain the little phone with a line through that appeared on my crappy Samsung.

I read the whole manual trying to decode it then when I gave up the symbol had gone on its own.
Said signal has now reappeared.

It was on the radio about turning 3G off apparently this is working for some people

Officially stating that appx 10,000 customers are affected, going by my experience with friends, messages on FB and on here and looking at twitter I think that is bks

Symptoms seem to be

Showing signal but not able to use
Not showing signal
Having signal for 5 mins but then it going again

Or in my case all 3

Well, if it's on Facebook it must be true...

Your phone doesn't have a silent setting?

Having spoken with O2 late last night and again this morning switching to 2g can work but eventually congestion will see you without signal again.

Simply put, the problem is down to a database outage – their entire population is split across 2 databases and one of those has broken. It will affect users all across the country and internationally. This DB holds signalling info and sms/data profiles.

O2 have been working with Ericson overnight on restoration, but everything so far has failed.

I'm hearing that turning 3G off will give you signal again.

A few hours without a mobile phone to hand for some people and the world seems to come to a halt ... funny!

Depends on the person though eh? A single person and their personal mobile it's not much of a problem. When it's a company with 4,500 PDA users who rely on the mobile data network for work scheduling, job data and real time tracking then it's massive ball ache and costs the company a lot of money!
