I guess the problem with Apple, and it's iOS is that it's that good and has been for years, people want more and more.
I think this is true, the iPhone and iPad do exactly what it says on the tin, perfectly, it just works and works well. The iCloud backup, given it's free, is simply fantastic. Everything works well, smoothly and swiftly and never goes wrong and you don't need to be a techy to get the best from it.

Chaps, before going a bit mental, remember that the Nokia ngage had the call to text feature. That was before android. Find out who has the patent, and if it has been licensed before going off the deep end.
Prior art didn't matter to Apple in the last verdict:

http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20120830/02063020...

So it's indeed all down to patents. Not who thought of it. Not who applied it. No, who patented it.

Fact is, and still stands, that all the "new" functionality is "stolen" from Android. Android is popular because of this stuff, this great amount of amazing small things. Apple are blindly copying them.

  • Bigger screen, maybe more "widescreen". Are you having a laugh? Ever since Android started to make 4" and bigger phones, Apple fanboys have been denying the benefit of a bigger screen.
  • Turn by turn navigation. rofl Curious to see how it will perform against Google Maps turn by turn, years after introduction on Android
  • Facebook integration. again rofl It's actually quite ridiculous how iOS is built up that they have to make a social network "available" for integration. What about people who want to share things on Yammer? Google+? Anything else on the market or in the future? This was android functionality. Day one.
  • Decline with text message. Loved this for the past 18 months on my S2.
  • ...
If someone today makes a phone with flat black front and back, with a metal edge around it, will people say they copied the iPhone 4 or the LG Prada?

Anyway, it will be sold in millions, no matter what the price. Good luck to them, if this is all they can come up with, my original iPad and iPhone 3GS will be the last I've spent on them (which they couldn't care less about, no doubt). In fact, I was willing to get another iPhone before I read what they added. This kind of functionality isn't even mentioned if it was introduced into Android, as it's so trivial (a part from the turn-by-turn maybe). Yet Apple somehow feels like they can boast with it? hehe

Who said anything about prior art? All I was saying was that before folks go mental, they check to see who holds the patent. Again, I realise that is a ridiculous thing to say, but there it is.

You say it is stolen from android, and yet my very old Nokia Ngage had call to text. That was why I mentioned it. But alas, that won't matter.

The rest of your post is just Fandroid. I often get stick, and am accused of being an apple fanboy. But fk me, you fandroids really do seem to get away with the abuse for some reason.

You like your android? Great, buy a fking android phone. Why the fk do these threads always end up in android vs fking iOS. It is so fking dull.

hmm there were rumours of them moving into the TV market, like a big screen with an integrated Apple TV or the like.
Would be interesting to see someone getting the "smart tv" concept right. I'm betting that MS is actually beating them to it with the Xbox/kinect combination (really is a great input method for TV compared to voice for example).

Anyway, I'm curious to see IF they could actually make a TV without the established brands (Samsung, Sony,...) suing the hell out of them.

I'm not saying they are infringing on any patents (probably aren't, they'd be more stupid than their customers if they did), I'm saying they are copying Android, not the Nokia Ngage.

Sorry, maybe a bit harsh, couldn't find a proper ending to "more stupid than", anyway, as for your question: Yes, they took some great functionality from different sources and put it together in their mix.

Just like Apple does.

But they don't sue everyone for doing the same, and don't claim that they have "invented" it.

Have they claimed they invented call to text?
As this is a thread about ios6, what have they claimed they invented?
Sorry, but I can't help but think you are just here to troll.

That would be a step too far, wouldn't it? They do sue for the "bounce back" patent, despite the prior art, as well as the "slide-to-unlock", the general shape of the phone, some multitouch gestures, all had enough prior art.

I think you just don't want to hear this:
Everybody, yes, even Apple, copies from everybody.

Everybody does this, otherwise you'll end up with bad devices overall. The art is in putting in a very functional device together with pieces of tech others did. As a certain tech blog described it it is a "recipe" company.
Apple does this, Samsung does this.
It has always been like this, it's how tech for us moves forward, yet Apple abuses the patent system to sue others for doing the same.

Anyway, I'll leave this thread for you guys to go nuts over the all new functionality the next iPhone will bring.

Really now? Oh well, that's me put in my place.

You appear to have a rather emotional attitude to Apple.

*sigh* Sounds like you are on a real crusade. Yes... A step too far. However, that was your claim, was it not? Yes, everyone copies from everyone else. Where the fk did I say otherwise? You just seem to be posting to get a response. If you want to talk about patent cases, do it on one of the threads already existing about this, rather than clogging up this thread. It has been talked about for long enough. Your last statement just goes to show you are trolling, and a fandroid troll at that.

Didn't mean to put you in your place, I was just querying how "rofl" smiley makes me look like "the kind of tool that would write Micro$oft"? I don't have the numbers here, but I'm betting that would make a large percentage of the people on PH that kind of tool.

Yes, I'm not a fan of hypocrites and bullies. I was probably picked on a lot at an early age.
I also don't like the fact that they are trying to limit the number of good phones I can test and use, as I love having used all kind of devices.

If you read the thread again, it was you who started mentioning patents and prior art. I just commented on that post. I'm sorry I tried to counter your out-of-context statement with one of my own. If you don't want to talk about patents in a certain thread, don't start talking about them yourself, that helps.

Who appears to be getting a bit mental now.... Can we all not have an adult discussion without resorting to insulting language?!

Apple makes phones that are good and lots of people like them.

Lots of other manufacturers make phones with the Android OS that are also very good and lots of people like them.

They are different and yes there are lots of questions regarding patents, the validity of them, and prior art but crikey, calm down dear.

I was responding to someone who said that Apple copied from Android. I had the temerity to mention that finding out about the patent before worrying about who copied from who would be sensible. I realise that in your world that is a terrible thing to suggest when others are talking about copying stuff, bt there it is.

I appreciate that you center on me, rather than the person who said apple customers are stupid, etc. Why s that? This thread is supposed to be about iOS6, but as usual it ends up in a bloody OS war.

At no point have I said anyone else's phones are crap, or that apples phones are the best, so not sure why you are pointing that at me. I just get fed up of the OS war types. If I was in every android or windows thread spouting how crap they are, blah blah, you may have a point, but I do not.

Ok, let's try this again.

They did copy it from Android. They didn't copy it from the Ngage, even if that was first.

Just like Samsung copied the "bounce back" from Apple, not from the obscure image editing program or website that went before it.

Could be that it's not even patented, just because it's just a logical thing to do. Why would you patent replying to an incoming phone call with a SMS?
