I'd go for the Samsung but then I like Android. As always, play with both and take the one you like.

Wonder how long it takes for this thread to turn into a slagging match

You really should have a play with both. I did, and I made mine, but I know others that went the other way. Everyone has their preferences. Both great phones though.

One of our guys who always have the latest, shiniest thing, used a Galaxy S3 for a month before going back to his iPhone and he really liked it. He said it probably did every individual thing better than iPhone but it just didn't hang together as well as iPhone does, which is kind of obvious really.

Currently have an SGS2 but had an email from Orange saying I may be able to upgrade early. Upon checking out the website it looks like it may be possible for me to change to an iPhone5 for £39 or an SGS3 for £129.
The attraction of the apps syncing from my ipad is very appealing given that just to get my SGS2 to sync calenders between my computer and ipad takes a bit of doing. Tried the google sync route and ended up with the SGS and ipad now displaying two lots of appointments for each one. It also for some odd reason alters times by an hour every now and again which can be infuriating for meetings/work times.
I am leaning towards the iphone personally. Can't be arsed with having to set everything up across multiple platforms so that is what is swaying me.

I've decided to keep my iPhone 4 instead of upgrading and reduce my monthly contract from £41 to £10.50.
I don't think that there is much difference between the phone I have and what is new to be worth the monthly outgoings.

Hang on a little while and get a One X+, the standard One X is great but has a few issues (battery life) , the new one irons out all the issues and its 65% faster, should easily trump the S3.

I'd go for iPhone 5. I'm a massive fan on the interface and every time I play with an android base phone, I find it so disappointing in that respect that I just can't get on with it. An open to try android etc (and with an open mind), just can't get on with it.

I disagree! the latest phones are light years ahead of your 3G, you can get some bloody good phones on £20 month contract so it is hardly worth staying in the Stone Age OP, definitely down to the feel, size and build quality in the shop as the OS on both devices will do what you want. I am not keen on the oversized screens as I use my phone one handed all the time, the iPhone is spot on for this IMO

iPhone 5, I don't see why you'd choose the S3 over it. Nice enough phone in isolation but not the same league IMO. Like choosing a Mondeo over a BMW

The iPhone 5 can do a lot more than your 3G and quicker too. You may not need or want the advancements but most people who use smartphones do.
