FWIW I had one of these (in this colour) on my old Motorola Atrix - didn't notice any sort of discolouration and gives the same level of protection as my current N4 case.

Not sure purple is really me, but thanks for the suggestion biggrin

I may have just bought a 16gb Nexus 4 because of this thread! Already got a galaxy s3 so I'll be interested to see which I prefer!
Mind if I ask why? I thought the S3 was still a top spec phone.
My girlfriend has the s3. The nexus is way better IMO. Mainly down to the vanilla os, faster processor and more ram.

Something I have noticed since the last update, so would like some confirmation on whether what I'm finding is true of the update or just a freak experience.

My battery life has increased. Not by a little bit, but by quite a large margin. I used to finish the day at 5:30pm (unplug at 7am when the alarm went off) with approx 30% battery left. I now find I'm leaving work with approx 45% left. This is while I'm still hammering Facebook, G+, Whatsapp et al.

Also, on a side note, I've noticed a slight hesitation every now and then. Usually, whilst typing a response via text, fb or whatsapp, the phone seems to have to catch up with my typing like my HTC Desire had to. Anything that can resolve this easily? The CPU-Z app doesn't show the phone overcompensating in power/CPU usage.
Mine is still fast but I've not noticed the battery life being any better. You could try a factory reset, mine was quite buggy after the update to 4.3. My gallery is more stuttery than it was on 4.2.

Well the official bumper case is officially a complete waste of money. After just 6 months, of which is been in its box for 2, the bumper is cracked where the USB port is. Never been dropped or manhandled. Pathetic really. It never stayed on properly the whole time I've had it. Crap crap crap.

Agreed, mine did the same.

I might actually try and get my £15 back as it's completely not fit for purpose.

I've since put a Diztronic case on both mine and her Nexuseseses.
Let me know if you do try and get your money back, I think they'll just say you damaged it. Agreed, probably the nicest looking yet worst case I've had for any phone since I had mobile phones.

I generally wish phones were more substantial without additional covers.
QFT. Surprisingly my old SGS2 was one of the more robust things I had despite being plasticky. The lumia 920 was pretty good too.

Am I the only one not upgrading to the Nexus 5, then? hehe

I was really hoping the Nexus 4 would get the transparent notification bar and nav buttons with the KitKat update, but it appears that it won't be. frown
I probably wont bother myself.

I don't know why the N4 wouldn't get the transparent notification bar or nav buttons though, do you have a link for that? Its not like its something an N4 couldn't handle with its Quad Core processor and 2Gb of RAM, really! eek

Hmmmmm that smacks of something apple would do. Disappointed if so. There's already custom ROMs that let you do this anyway.

Not far behind though, probably only a matter of days or weeks in my experience.

Bugger, I am quite wrong. I shouldn't post just after I've woken up -- I was thinking about android on iPhone!

Sorry.
Now you really have confused me hehe

You aren't my mate are you? He was texting me this morning to ask if you could put iOS7 on a Nexus 5 eek

O/T but it's not as far fetched as it sounds. Most of the chips are common.

Android on iPhone hardware has been done (Android's mostly open source, so doable by anyone with the skill, time and inclination). Example: http://www.idroidproject.org/

iOS on Android hardware is something Apple would have to do themselves (iOS is closed source) -- but as previously stated, the chips are mostly common anyway.
There isn't much that separates an arm based iPhone from an arm based nexus 5 -- a few drivers and so on.

No magic to it really, just work and legal issues.
Oh aye, I agree it *could* be done, but it's not something my mate, or 99.9% of the population would even contemplate.

Yeah, I thought that was a very Apple-like thing to do as well. It's only a minor thing, but I was looking forward to it. I know it can be done with a custom ROM, but I know absolutely nothing about rooting and custom ROMs, so it'll only end badly. hehe
Me too mate, its a minor change, but it looked nice, and therefore I wanted it.

As for rooting / ROMing, its piss easy mate, if you can follow instructions, and do a little research, it is easy. If I can do it anyone can hehe

No idea, but just spotted this:

http://phandroid.com/2013/11/06/nexus-5-launcher-a...

I'm not impressed, the whole idea behind getting a Nexus device is to get the latest updates first, in all their glory, but if they are going to start doing this (withdrawing features for phones that are more than capable of running them), then I am going to move to devices that are just more capable out of the box (i.e. better cameras, SD card functionality, etc), because we are no longer getting the real deal here.

I would not have bought the Nexus, and put up with all of the compromises it has just so google could come along and decide not to put half of the new features in the OS when it is finally updated. They've turned into Apple. And yes I know it can all be baked into a ROM, but that's not the point. They go on about fragmentation, and now they are fragmenting their own devices, nice one!

So I very much doubt my next device will be a Nexus.

Is it not quite feasible that the N5's Adreno has overlays in hardware, where the older ones don't?
There are already ROMs that supposedly do the graphical touches on the N4, and the article above refers to the home launcher, which again someone has made available, but you shouldn't have to do it - but there again I always end up using Nova...

I'm still happy with the 4 but I'm not automatically going to buy a Nexus any more in future, I got the Nexus so I didn't have to dick around getting the latest OS and features (like I used to all the time when I had Samsung Galaxies), but if they're going to start doing that, then I may as well keep my options open in future.

Plant Vs Zombies 2, this game will demolish a fully charged N4 in about 50-60 mins. Is this normal?

Anyone else have this issue
Don't play games, but it wouldn't surprise me to be honest, you can demolish a fully charged N4 in about 3 - 4 hours just browsing the internet on 3G. Battery life ain't its strong point.

Indeed, particularly as you can get official Google ROMs for the SGS4 and HTC One which are both, on paper at least, better phones. Still the nexus was cheap I guess.

The keyboard extras have changed & moved around on my phone overnight... I'm not going mad am I? silly

Edit: it didn't ask for an update or tell me its done one
When you use the keyboard, are the suggestions now grey/white? And do you have emoji icons bottom right key on keyboard, with lots of monochrome icons when you press it? If so, yes your keyboard has updated.

I've tried it and I've gone back to using swiftkey.

So i watched my battery drain by watching YouTube to about 52/51% (this was after a full factory reset, new rom and kernel) and the phone just turned off, not cleanly either. Hardware problem!

Phoned Google, replacement is now being shipped free of charge and i get 10 days or so to send mine back. Very pleased!
Nice one, hope this one works out better.

To be honest I'd probably end up using nova anyway as I've never been a fan of the stock launcher with its inherent lack of features.
