Apparently with the kitkat update some peoples sms's are going out as mms.
I noticed on my contract that I suddenly had 500 mms messages which I didnt have, so I rang up CS and was advised by them that they had done this because nexus 4 &5 had been sending sms as mms.
Actually V impressed with the operator for that.

I can't follow this. You sent 500 sms but your phone converted them to mms which you noticed on your contract? Invoice/bill? Who/what is CS and what did they do?I noticed on my contract that I suddenly had 500 mms messages which I didnt have, so I rang up CS and was advised by them that they had done this because nexus 4 &5 had been sending sms as mms.

Anyway, assuming your phone was sending sms as mms, I checked my N4 (which is on Kit Kat) and it says "sms" next to those messages I've sent. Also, on GiffGaff mms is not part of the monthly fee, so I would need to top-up my account to send mms.
Possibly a config problem?

On my phone there is an app to see what I have used that month, ie mins, sms and data. But I noticed that I had a new option, the MMS messages or picture messages.
I was suspicious of this generosity, because they never give away things mid contract do they?
So I called CS (Customer Services) to find out why this new allowance was on my account.
On speaking to them (Customer services) it would seem that some nexus devices had been sending SMS messages as MMS (perhaps with the hangout feature and multiple recipients?) So rather than letting the customers get huge bills for MMS that they did not know they were sending, the network operator has given all the Nexus users 500 free MMS to cover this problem.

Crikey. Just had to set an alarm and now instead of the digital clock and just typing the digits in for the desired time you now use gestures on a clock face. Needlessly complicating something.
I thought the same at first. But now I've used it for a few weeks, I actually find I much prefer it to the old way of setting an alarm...although I'm not sure why exactly.DervVW said:

You've got me intrigued now. I can view the mobile data usage and Hangouts is listed with 28Kb (only) against it. I would have thought the numerous text messages I have sent would be more but I don't know how big they are (file size). On my phone there is an app to see what I have used that month, ie mins, sms and data. But I noticed that I had a new option, the MMS messages or picture messages.

What app are you using? I must have it.
Just sideloaded the minor update to 4.4.1, and we now have a transparent lockscreen:
Download link for anyone who's impatient like me.
Edit- I also just switched back to ART and it's now compatible with Whatsapp, which was the only reason I wasn't using it. Good stuff.
