I've seen some suggestion that the 4.4 has caused some issues for some.

There's a 4.4.2 update now which appear to be just bugfixes, which I'm busy sideloading.

Hi, anybody suffered with this problem since updating to 4.4:
I charge my phone overnight and then in the morning light is blinking to notify of emails etc but cannot get the screen to come on. Have to hold down the power button and then restart the phone??
I've had this problem intermitently since I first got the phone, happens maybe once every couple of weeks. Just trying to decide if I can be arsed sending it back to be fixed or not. Don't think it's to do with the update.
Yes, me too. I started documenting my crashes at one point but they were only about once-a-fortnight so I stopped and lived with it. However I've had 2 in quick succession recently, so I might start doing it again. The most irritating was that it obviously crashed overnight at some point, which led to my alarm not going off.

Side loaded 4.4.2 earlier

Bluetooth still dies

*rageface*

Going to reflash the 4.4 factory image on and leave it on I think....

ETA wonder if I should stick 4.3 on just to be safe hehe (although I didn't have bluetooth problems until 4.4.1)

Okay, so I thought I'd do the 'easy' option of installing a 'stable' version of Cyanogenmod (10.2, based upon 4.3, released last week). I like the (nightly) build I've got on my N7 at the moment.

Ha ha fking ha.

Firstly you can't just flash CM10.2 on top of 4.4 - you need the bootloader from 4.3 otherwise the Wifi and sound doesn't work. I could flash another zip but would rather it was done properly so flash the 4.3 factory image.

(eventually) I can flash CM10.2 on. And within 10 minutes of using it it crashes due to a bug when using the camera flash rolleyes I never learn...

I can't be arsed with custom ROMs on the N4. I'm pretty happy with stock at the moment. biggrin

Same here. I guess I'm lucky that my N4 seems stable on 4.4.2
Saying that, I returned to the shady world of rooting and flashing when I updated my wife's HTC Sensation with CM10 last night. Much better than the bloated ICS it was running and seems stable (so far, fingers crossed)

hehe at least the Bluetooth works great now! biggrin

Other than that first crash (which seems to be this http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/83204-cm102-rc1... and the faffing around setting it up, it's been solid so far.

  • I'm liking the camera app otherwise - it's got a few more manual options available to set the image compression/ISO etc.
  • Has a privacy/permissions guard and call/number blocker built in
Other than that thought there's not a lot (other than a massive amount of customisation for almost everything) so would have happily stuck with stock android if weren't for the bluetooth issues.

It's just crashed again so I've started logging it again.

I'm getting the same Bluetooth problem with my N4 and the Skoda, sounds the same as Mark, Bluetooth dies and then won't turn on again until I reboot the phone. Bloody irritating. Mine is on 4.4.2....not sure I know how to stick any other version on the phone?

If you've never tried rooting/flashing /custom ROMs then easiest thing might be to send it back to where you got it from if possible, I'd expect you'd get another N4 with an older version.

Otherwise you can try flashing a 'factory image' on. There ought to be a few guides online how to do this.

I'd suspect we'll see a 4.4.3 update very soon though...

Do those having Bluetooth issues have Llama, NFC task launcher or similar?

I had those issues when I used to use those apps for turning Bluetooth off when at home etc.

Not had any issues with my N4 on latest update and none of those apps.

Nope, nothing like that on mine - ahh actually having said that, I use Sound Profile Lite on mine which will turn B'tooth on and off dependent on the profile I think?

My phone came from the Play store just under a year ago. I'm assuming that there will be an update to fix this, I'd had no problems before this last update.

Is anyone having issues with battery life?

I have a real problem with it.

When the phone is connected to Wi-fi there's no problem at all and battery life is excellent.

It's when it isn't that the problem comes and the battery is draining in around 10 hours with no, or little usage at all. The rear is getting warm which suggests that the processor is being used.

I'm on 4.4.2. Battery usage shows Android OS as by far and away the major battery user. I've tried turning off various things with some help on the internet such as sync settings, location etc but to no avail.

I'm just struggling to work it out when on Wi-fi it's fine. It seems that as soon as I use the phone off wi-fi for even the most mundane task then the processor starts eating the battery

Any suggestions would be great. Phone is only 2 months old.

Poor signal? If you phone is struggling to maintain a network connection then it ramps up the amplification to hang on to the signal but this can hammer the battery. Note that this applies to 3G as well as 2G so if you are in an area with a weak 3G signal but strong 2G it can be worth forcing it to 2G only to save battery (my office is like this - heat reflective windows are also mobile network reflective!).

Interesting. It does spend most of the day in an office. I shall give 2g a go, thanks.

Since 4.4.2 I have found that if Location is set to high accuracy it hammers the battery and gets really warm even if I'm not doing anything. For the time being I have it set to battery saving which sorts the problem. I'm not sure if I have an app which regularly tries to locate where the phone is.

Possibly firing up the GPS in an attempt to get the location (despite being indoors)? Are you in range of a wifi signal when this happens?

I don't think so. It's when I'm at work so using 3G and a mixture of in and outdoors.

I'm guessing here at the cause here but your phone has two ways of obtaining a "high accuracy" location - Wifi or GPS. It seems reasonable to me that it will use wifi signals as it's first choice (low battery use, works indoors, decent accuracy) but in absence of a wifi signal it will use the GPS chip instead. Outdoors this is fine (since it will lock on quickly, get the location and then turn it back off again) but indoors it could keep trying and trying without ever getting a fix, wasting battery and displaying the heating symptom you've noticed.

It's worth allowing wifi scanning at all times (go to settings > wifi > menu > advanced wifi > scanning always available) if it isn't already enabled. This will let the phone use the wifi chip to get a location even if the wifi is off, which may help. It's worth noting that you don't need to be able to actually connect to a wifi network to get a location from it - just being able to see the SSID (network name) is enough.
