Reboot the phone. Sometimes services get stuck doing something resulting in a lot of wakelocks and a reboot often clears it. Android OS sometimes does it and so does Google Play Services. 4.4 is much better than 4.3 was for it though. If you are in a particularly bad signal area, the phone can waste a lot of power trying to maintain a 3G signal. If you don't need it, then try switching the network mode to 2G which is usually stronger and doesn't use as much power.

I've just come along to post as well. Unplugged the phone about 3am, when it was charged to 100%. It's used over 20% of it's battery whilst I was asleep.

I tried to upload an image, but with Kit Kat the upload option doesn't work any more. Android System 30%, Exchange Services 16%, Android OS 10% of the use. I understand that they're only percentages of what has been used. Before I could unplug my phone when going to bed and it would use 5%.

ETA - WiFi enabled, location services enable to high, but all three options are showing low use and e-mail set to refresh every hour, apart from Gmail which I can't find an option to turn off push notifications. Since Jelly Bean, no options have changed and I alwayseave the WiFi on at night.

Went to answer the phone while out in the rain buying fence panels destroyed in the wind, butterfingers here not only dropped it, but then proceeded to, in an attempt to slow its decent with ones leg, fire it across the concrete floor and with it spin out of the cover.
In one was it was a blessing as it landed rearwards, though inevitably the rear glass cracked on impact.

I did think of simply leaving it and ordered a ballistic case but decided after tiny shards of glass were falling out that I ought to repair it. Thinking it is major surgery I had a look on line and eventually found a UK seller of the glass for £15.

Some say remove the back, others not. I prefer to take as little off as possible so left it in one piece.
Bit fiddly as the charger pad is stuck to the back of the glass and it fragments really easily, but does come off if youre careful.
Glass turned up today and phone now looks as new. Phew!
Now waiting till the new case arrives.......

I've tried looking online, to no effect!

How do you disable Voice Dialler and the Google Speak thingy.

Towards the end of my cardio workouts in the gym they keep cutting in sporadically, but often (if that makes sense) shutting the music off, just when I need it most. I'm fairly sure there is no sweat causing it, I thing it is heavier breathing!

My Sennheiser/Adidas sports buds have an inline mic which appears to be the cause of the problem. I'm not willing to try other phones at the moment!smile

I tried a tiny judicious dab of glue in the mic hole, no dice. Will have to try glueing a tiny bit of material over the mic and see if that works.

Any ideas?

Go to Google Settings app, tap Search and then turn Google Now off from there. Think that should do it.

I find a case is a bit of a no brainer for a modern smartphone - my N4 has been dropped a number of times onto a variety of hard surfaces (roads/concrete) etc. and no marks whatsoever thanks to the £2 fleabay case I put on.

I keep it in a padded case - think it was meant for a Nintendo DS, had it nearly a year and its been ok.
It was just unfortunate I managed to catch it and flick it out across the floor!
Still, it looks perfect now and the new cover should be here Mon or Tues.

I know some of you are having issues with the phone, but its been pretty much faultless for me. When they replace the N5 I hope they go back to this size as its about as big as I'd want a phone to be.

'Play Music' app > Click on Headphones on the top left > My Library > Songs > Shuffle All

... this is assuming you've transferred the music using the USB cable - if you've used something fancy like FTP you might have to restart the phone to make the music appear.

While on the subject... is there a way to make playlists on your PC and transfer them onto the phone? Can be some iTunes style music library manager wotsit application, I'm open to suggestions.

Gah, my N4 has developed a habit of losing it's signal and not reconnecting until I manually select a network operator or switch on /off aeroplane mode.

I'm running CM10.2 (stable) and on the Ovivo network, but oddly I haven't upgraded or changed anything for a couple months, and it's only started doing this a week ago.

Mostly does this at home and occasionally at work, so might be signal related. Or not.

I think I did have a similar issue when I was running a nightly version of CM10.1 (or possibly Paranoid Android) about a year ago (I think), however the 'No signal alert' app doesn't work with Android 4.3/CM10.2. Any app (or new ROM) recommendations?

Least the bluetooth is still faultless lol

Swapped the SIM card into my old Atrix and not only did it recover automatically after a lost signal, I'm pretty sure it didn't lose the signal as often...

I've stuck on a different ROM (Pananoid Android 4.0 FWIW). Doesn't look good as I've just noticed the signal was lost and I had to manually search to get it back (3/4 bars).

frown

Eta OK after two weeks use I think it's OK now. Started getting the bluetooth cutting out with my car again with the 4.4 based rom and one you-know-its-not-going-to-work-but-fk-it solution was to disable wifi when bluetoothed to the car. Couple of llama profiles later and no more problems with both bluetooth and no signal biggrin

Anyone else having issues with the soft buttons no longer working ?

It seems a lot of people are having problems since the 443/444 release.

Sometimes I can't answer a call. I swipe till I'm blue in the face to no avail. Lock it and try again but it rarely answers.

My volume buttons are playing up also, sometimes just not responding.

This is more related to the 3 buttons, home menu back etc. These have stopped working on my wife's N4 recently rendering the phone all but useless. Searching online, a number of people have experienced the same issue following the update. The only solution seems to be screen replacement. Very odd.

Why not wait for the official OTA, only a couple of weeks to wait.

This. You'll get the official update soon enough smile It's made me happy enough that I've ditched the idea of a new phone, I'll just have to remember to take my compact camera everywhere as I really hate the camera on the 4.

Because

  • Your phone won't reboot after restoring all your apps on it (from Google play), so you'll need to wipe and start again
  • Speaking of which, Google play access is iffy (can't view installed apps, sometimes, can't install stuff sometimes)
  • Bluetooth is a bit reluctant to connect/detect devices (well my car at least)
  • Hangouts (SMS app) crashed at least once)
  • At least it still works as a phone. For now....
Yeah... best waiting for the official update...
