The Moto X is a pretty pure device isn't it?
Apparently so.

Doesn't seem to have an LED other than a single colour green one, but does have "Active Display" which sounds interesting.

Apparently there is a major phone expo early March where new models (more than usual) are announced so maybe that'll drive some prices down on existing high end models.

MWC should be good this year. Plenty of new phones going to be announced so very much looking forward to it.

Sony has been impressive lately and they don't bloat the st out of their UI as much as Samsung/LG do.

Knowing what I'm like though, I'll wait till October then buy the new Nexus. hehe

I have recycled an old N4 to run Ubuntu Touch, which was good, but had to hand it back to Fer Jr. as it was his old phone.

Might have to sort out another off eBay.

I do like my n4 and really it runs most things without issue - its just the piss poor batterylife. also mine has taken to not allowing the USB port be read on a PC. Its really picky on chargers too.

I have replaced the battery on mine but it's not made much difference to how long it lasts. I guess I use it too much.

Tried greenify, not sure that makes much difference either.

Tempted by a G3, they seem good value compared to the M8/Z3 etc, like the MicroSD slot and removable battery. You can get some very big batteries to go in it, I know it makes the phone chunky, but could be useful when you know you are going to be away for a bit..

Moto X is still the thick end of £400 and I'm buggered if I can find anywhere on the high street that has a lot of these phones in to physically look at.

I fancy checking out a Nexus 6 too - though it sounds like it'll just be too damned big.

Then a little part of me thinks why not just get a Moto G to scratch the "something new" itch as it's not like I push the N4.

That bloody RGB LED is proving tricky to replace.

Volume button has stopped working on mine. I may have gave it a gentle tap to unstick it, but now it doesn't work at all. I'll have to take it apart as I had a Google and it is a known issue.

If you're considering a Nexus 6, how about a Oneplus One? It has an RGB LED and Cyanogen is so close to stock Android.

I loved mine but the size was an issue for me.

had the same thought an LG g3 seems to tick all the boxes that a 4 meets and yet you can add an Sd card and carry a spare battery...

And another thing - is the four no longer getting updates? Mine is on 5.0.1 and there are no more updates due.
My wife has a HTC one (M7 maybe? Its not the M8 anyway) and that recenlty upgraded to 5.0.2... I thought the nexus devices were first in the queue?

My LG G3S is pretty good compared to the N4. Perhaps a tiny bit laggy switching between screens but not a disaster. Right about the N4 not getting 5.02, I switched my one back on and no update as of yet. Im interested to see if it cures all the issues. Goes to show Google arent giving the backup they promised.

Im hoping if they update the G3S to Lollipop that it doesnt inherit the issues my N4 had!

Looks like they're going to skip any more 5.0.x updates for the N4 and go to 5.1. It's just been announced and Nexus 4 is on the list of releases.

Off topic... whats the difference LG G3 /LG G3S?

Yes I wonder if the backup has stopped now the device is 3 years old?

Bit of a cost cutting exercise on a G3. Less powerful and less memory though it does have micro sd expansion up to 64gb - think I went 32 as I dont need that much! Again, I bought it due to LG having made the N4, and that (perhaps) Lollipop had caused more issues than solved as the G3S runs KitKat.

Thanks - that clears that up - I think you can only get a g3s now

I'm spending more and more time away with work now and the N4 just wasn't cutting it battery wise any more.

Spent some time reading about battery life and discovered the Xperia Z3. Been using it since Friday and charged it 3 times. 4G connected 24/7 with heavy use from 8am til bed time. Freedom at last.

The N4 is definitely still a great phone and after a factory reset was running like lightning, but glad I changed at last.

5.1 OTA update is avaible for anyone still using their Nexus 4 - Direct download link

I'm impressed that they're still updating it, considering it was released 2.5 years ago.

One hand: I'm sad that an item only 2.5 years old is considered obsolete. No wonder we have a consumerist, wasteful culture.

The other hand: The speed of technological advancement is amazing to watch.

Just got a notification that 5.1 is available - just a minor point release I'm assuming as I don't see any major reviews?
