Tell them to forget the SIM and give you your PAC code so you can take your number and business elsewhere...
I was in a hurry at the time, and didn't want the hassle, but considering that since I knocked the price of my contract down, my internet has been so much slower, they obviously aren't bothered whether they keep my custom or not.rasto said:

My S2, nor more Desire was.
Yes, a strong 3G signal is much more battery friendly than wifi.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1...

And in my own use, if I use a device none stop in the house (on Wifi), I get almost twice the endurance than if I use 3G.

Just as an update to my Nexus/Android experience.. I picked up a Galaxy S3 yesterday. At first I wasn't super impressed - the handset itself is much more plastic-y feeling, and the screen has a very blue tint to it. I tried a few games and apps, and immediately I can see a difference - games run smoother, and there's no lag in the OS despite what I leave running.
The only downside was the stupid Samsung TouchWiz rubbish, and hundreds of bloat-ware apps that come installed. It kept getting in my way, rather than letting me use the phone. After a bit of googling I decided on a Rom that better suited my needs, and chose SuperNexus (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1817345) as it's the most 'vanilla' android you can get on the Galaxy, I think.
After installing that, it's like night and day. The phone is even faster, games run even faster, and there's no nasty apps that I can't uninstall.
So, sorry to say it, but the nexus isn't the best phone, or at least certainly not the 'super phone' I thought it would be based on the specification, but I think android *is* the best OS. If only I could stop my screen looking like it's under water.. so blueeeeee.
Seeing as you're not afraid of flashing ROMs, there should be some Kernels you can flash that allow you to "correct" the colours (as well as other stuff like improving the sound quality of the headphones etc). The only downside was the stupid Samsung TouchWiz rubbish, and hundreds of bloat-ware apps that come installed. This is the start of my first day with mine.
So far I'm down to 81%.
Its been unplugged for 4 hours.
The screen has been on for 28 minutes, 35 seconds.
Overall, it seems about the same as my old Galaxy Nexus. I.e. Not great. However, if it can get me through the day then I'm happy enough.
To be fair, I don't usually bother swiping open apps shut, and I have ebay, facebook and gmail all set to push, and also have google now running, and a weather widget running. Well, whats the point in having a smart phone if you aren't going to use it like one?!
Really happy with the performance of it though, this is one hell of a fast phone.

Wanting one, now waiting on UK stock, any news on when more will be around? O2 are offering the 8GB sim free at £399!
I got my 16Gb model from CEX for £350. Try them. They have a website, and if you search you'll be able to see if any local stores have any in stock.I kind of begrudged paying more than what they're for sale in the google play store, but given that I have no idea when they were going to get them back in stock, and the fact I'd made my mind up that a Nexus device is the device for me, I just decided to go ahead and get one - I know I'll be keeping it for at least a year.

Me too. Very much so.
My battery life isn't as bad as my post- Christmas experience suggested. I was in an old house in a 3G area, so I think this was killing the battery far more than my normal usage pattern does. I had 28 hours of normal usage of the battery at the end of last week, which is fine with me.
Mine ended up being on about 35% by 7pm with 1hr 50 screen on time. That is pretty acceptable to me. Lets be honest, as long as it can get you through a day, that is good enough, I had a Note II which had great battery life, but ultimately, it was never needed for the most part (although it was nice to have the headroom on the odd occasion). If necessary its easy enough to take a cable / charger with you if you think you'll run out.My battery life isn't as bad as my post- Christmas experience suggested. Its about on par with my old GNex but then I don't really go out of my way to save the battery.
I personally think that a software update may improve the battery as the battery life is worse than the LG phone that its based on despite that having bloat in the OS.
As for the phone itself, I am absolutely delighted with it. Fantastic, fast, responsive and slick.

Well, the Sony Xperia Z looks pretty nice too... I wonder which will be cheaper, (probably the Nexus,) and which will be in stock first?
The Z will almost certainly be much more expensive, but as for which is in stock first, well, place your bets!I'm happy with the N4 for the forseeable. Just like the Galaxy Nexus before it, because of the Vanilla OS installed on it, it will run just as fast, if not faster than all these new phones with higher specs in anything except benchmarks.
The CPU in the Sony may be a bit quicker than the N4 but the 1080P resolution will take double the processing power to run at the same speed and the overlay they will inevitably add will also take up more resources.
To see what I mean, try comparing a Galaxy Nexus and a Galaxy S3 side by side. Its the Nexus that is the quicker device in day to day use despite being significantly less powerful.
I find mine about the same as my old Galaxy Nexus, which in turn was similar to a standard Galaxy S2. Nowhere near as good as the Galaxy Note II for battery life, and not as good as the Lumia 920 either. It seems most devices are starting to have better battery life, but this one is not great, I have to say, but it gets through the day so I'm happy enough.
I've not really found any other faults yet, which is pretty unusual, as I find some faults with most phones.
I love it. Jellybean 4.2.1 in its naked form is just an absolute pleasure to use. In particular, the clock app is just an utterly fantastic piece of UI design that gets lots of use here. Google Now is also useful for me, and is continuing to get better.

Had mine delivered this morning. Just trying to work out how to use it, it's my first android phone.
I can only find a basic analogue or digital clock, do I have to download others from the play store or am I missing something?
If you're talking about widgets (clocks on your home screen?) then yes you do have to download others from the Play Store.I can only find a basic analogue or digital clock, do I have to download others from the play store or am I missing something?
To get you started you could try:-
Beautiful Widgets
HD Widgets
Fancy Widgets
MIUI Analog clock (there are black and white ones and other fancy ones)
Bobclock
UCCW (probably not for beginners, that one).
Mine fell off the table (which I thought was a flat surface until now) the first day I had it. Thank god for the thick, furry carpet
BTW I admire you for using it naked, I would rather, but I know how clumsy I am, and how fragile these devices are (don't whatever you do drop it on concrete!)

I got my Nexus 4 yesterday and I think I'm going to send it back. The colours look totally washed out compared to my Galaxy S2. Anyone else found that?
To say I was disappointed would be an understatement!
Thats the difference between LCD screens and AMOLED screens. I find the screen very good but if you came from an AMOLED (I did) it takes some getting used to again. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement!
AMOLED colours are always brighter and more vivid, and there's very little getting around it. LCDs are usually sharper.
I've seen similar rumours before for other phones. I remember how the Galaxy S3 was going to come out in time for xmas 2011 (only about 8 months after the S2), it didn't appear until May 2012 (IIRC).
I am someone who has, in the past, liked having the latest, but even if this story was true (it won't be), I am not too bothered either, especially seeing as my current handset is reliable. Nexus devices are more about the software for me than the hardware (although having nice hardware is always nice - but power is nothing without control), and these will continue to get the latest updates.
But no, I think we'll still be looking at a Q4 release for a new Nexus. I think what is possible is that it gets a mid-life refresh like the Nexus 7, possibly with more storage, perhaps 4G, and maybe some slightly better specs, but I doubt we'll be seeing an entirely new model for some time yet.
