I nearly missed this, assuming it was a 4 inch equivalent of the 10 inch tablet. 
The wife has a rolling contract with dirt cheap unlimited internet and sufficient minutes/texts; the provider won't offer her anything worthwhile as an upgrade even if she pays extra. I've got an HTC One X but spending the best part of £500 on one of those or the SGIII seemed a bit much. Thrilled I double checked this couldn't take a SIM card!

I'll wait and see, I've got the GNex which I'm more than happy with to be fair. To be considered for an upgrade for me, it'll need to be a better screen, camera, battery life and at least equal sound quality from the headphone jack. I'm sure it'll do all of those things.
To be honest, with the Nexus, it'll go from strength to strength. The current Jelly Bean 4.1.2 is far better to use than ICS which what was on the GNex when released.

I'm after a Galaxy Nexus for my Business SIM but can't find one under £200 yet. The biggest benefit, as I see it, is that the phone comes with "pure" Android, bereft of manufacturer overlays. This, combined with the fact that owners of the device will get software updates as and when they are released by google.ApexJimi said:

My S2 still is a brilliant phone, better than the day I bought it. But the newer devices are on 4.1 now and that has some cool new things:

For most people this won't matter a bit, you'd still have the most functional mobile OS on the market with the Sony, but if you fancy the latest and greatest, the Nexus line really is the way to go.
That said, I've had the opportunity to sample, select and buy a lot of mobile devices, I never owned a Nexus device myself. I think the 10 will be my first move into the "Nexus" brand, but I want to have a play with it first of course.

It's all down to preference. I love the replaceable battery of the S2, I don't think I want a phone without it just yet (unless they do something drastic with battery life in smartphones).

Sounds familiar!Nah, it's less a case of me being indecisive, and more to do with that fact that I've been put off various phones for various reasons.
Assuming the reported battery life is down to the non-final software version, I can definitely see me going for this phone.

Some interesting new features there - but perhaps just new ways of doing things? I did find it slightly amusing that at the start they boasted about the speed of the new OS but then had to show you it at 300fps to make it noticeable.

I was all sold on a new Xperia P until this news broke. But then I checked the specs and while the Nexus is marginally better at some things I don't think I'd see the benefit of them. Plus it just looks a bit...like a toy. I prefer the look of the Sony.
But on the other hand......
Might be worth looking at the Xperia S instead. Was recently added to Google's AOSP program, which basically means Nexus style updates should be on the way. Not that I'm too bothered if they aren't as it's a brilliant handset, especially for the money imo. The Walkman app is the best media player on a mobile device I have used, including the iPod built into iPhones. It looks and sounds fantastic, and is full of useful stuff. But on the other hand......
Still considering this phone. Have just been given a HTC One X by a friend. Worth selling it on Ebay for around £230 and making up the difference to grab this device? The screen on the HTC is amazing but the lack of Jellybean update even though it's supposed to have been 'rolled out' over the last few days, I don't know anyone who has received it yet.
