Thanks for that Paul and another poster. Help inform my internal debate on whether a bigger screen, slicker load times and new enviornment is worth an extra (£120 a year - so probably is). Now its a case of which phone!

It was just the JB ICS OTA bit I didn't get, so thanks for your explanation. Has the OS evolved greatly between versions? iOS was very incremental (other than the launch of the App Store; I've been using iOS since the first version and that was by far the most substantive change in my view). Hence I don't bother updating when the new version of iOS is launched, usually.
No problem smile Yes, Android has evolved beyond recognition - literally. I agree with your comment about iOS though - I admittedly don't know much about it but I genuinely don't think I could tell the difference between the original iOS on an old iPhone and the latest iOS6 on an iPhone 5.

Have to say, that's a great explanation from Parapaul. I'm a long-time Android user but I couldn't have explained it that well ...

Cheers smile Not very often I can contribute something, but glad I could help.

More user reviews starting to trickle out now: http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2013/02/sony-xperia-z-rev...

Must admit, I was poised to hit the buy button but the HTC One looks tempting - so I'll probably wait until I can have a play with both and make up my mind.

I've got an HTC Desire S at the moment, and after ditching Sense for CyanogenMod which is almost pure Android, I wouldn't have another one.

While Gingerbread wasn't anything pretty in its vanilla form, now Android has evolved to Jelly Bean I don't think there's any need for the skins applied by manufacturers. Sony have one of the least fettled-with stock ROMs and it's highly likely I'll still want to go back to CM eventually.

HTC hardware is excellent though, they consistently release phones with very high end internals.

Has anyone with a pre-order placed had confirmation they'll receive their phone tomorrow? I ordered with Carphone Warehouse, for delivery to store near my office, but nothing received yet other than the finance approval of the phone contract which came within a day of my order, weeks ago.

I'm in the same boat although I prefer the removable storage and the water resistance is a nice thing to have. I'm going to wait for the galaxy s4 I think.

I'd just be grateful if they had cancelled mine 10days after ordering without warning or reason. Unsuprisingly, they can't reinstate the order to include the headphones now, great.... frown

Now ordered with Vodafone directly but no confirmation on delivery to store yet.

I thought by ordering from CPW and having it delivered to store, I'd probably be more likely to get it on release day. That was the reason I went for a black one rather than waiting for purple. Well, we'll see...

I asked exactly the same question on XDA the other day. I'd had no contact since the initial confirmation either. Got no reply there either, so don't feel bad biggrin

Anyway, I phoned my local cpw to ask. The girl there said just to walk in and it would be there waiting.

Typically, about 5 minutes after hanging up the phone, I got a reminder email...

So, fear not. Trust the system. Or something like that.

Reading Gozmodo review can i ask, when they say it has ok battery life will it be worse than say my 2.5 year old Iphone.

Now I’m no longer flying for work I’m finding I no longer use all of my data allowance or my phone for that matter and that my iPhone although used during the day to listen to music / radio will go from 100% to say 30% by the time I walk in the door at 7pm. Which isn’t all that bad tbh as at that point I pick up my mini and surf using that.

The report implied I may be lucky to even see that?

Anyone with real life experience of 1080p phones say a One X?

I pre-ordered mine on the 14th directly with Vodafone.

I have just checked my order online which still shows........
Parcel number We haven't dispatched your order yet. You'll see a parcel number when we send it.
Order status We've pre-ordered your phone. We'll send it as soon it's available.

Either the website hasn't been updated, or i'm not getting my phone and headphones tomorrow! frown

I ordered mine without the headphones. £26 a month with unlimited internet.

Apparently, it has despatched and is due tomorrow.

Who is that with? All the plans I can see are at least £34.

I received a torrent of e-mails and texts yesterday; not entirely consistent with each other since the first ones talked about my order having been just accepted and receiving further e-mails at some point, which then arrived and referred to 3 days for delivery. Finally a tracking e-mail which confirms it should be ready for collection today. CPW really ought to work on their customer service info for pre-orders.

Mobiles Direct. It is a T Mobile contract.

I'd take virtually every Gizmodo review of anything with more than a pinch of salt. They're some of the worst reviewers the web has ever seen.

This is my main concern. I've read a few reviews which complain about the battery life. I am hoping it will be comparable to my Galaxy S2 but we'll see.

I've had my confirmation text. The phone will be arriving between 12:34 and 13:34! I just hope there will be a set of headphones with it!

Gizmodo for one don't do anything like real world battery testing - they just play a video on loop and say how long it lasts, or just give anecdotal evidence.

gsmarena do a variety of tests, talk time, browsing and video playback - more representative, wait until they've given it a go (and their review of the Z was pretty positive)

In general smartphone battery life is lousy, unless you buy one of the devices with a gigantic battery.
